I've been alive for a thousand years. And I have never for once taken a life. I walk in the darkness in thirst and hunger but only quenching my thirst with the blood of an animal. For the kind of curse, I possessed is not one to be passed down to another, the burden of the curse weighed a thousand times more than death.

For over a thousand years, I have walked the dusty earth with no companion, no friend, and no confidant. I became cold and withdrawn... an avatar of hate whose sole mission is to escape into love.

The moon brightened my sadness, while the stars reflected my depression and the cool evening breeze filled me with a sense of loss. For I have lost many to the burning fire of the sun.

I am the only survivor of my clan and I am destined to walk this earth alone... until I find true love. But alas, fate favored me, and graced me with love.

Her name is Jennifer and she was my lover. We met one fateful night while the moon brightened the darkness that lurked deep within my soul as I walked the lonely way home. She was on her way to get a late-night coffee when she was attacked by a gang of men, who stole from her and were threatening to rape her...

I was a few blocks away from them, feeding off the leftovers of the bush rat I had caught the night before, when I heard her loud cry for help.

Normally, I would have ignored it and carried on with my feast, but fate was at work. So I took off in their direction.

I arrived within a split second before any harm could be done to he. And with my ability to move faster than the eyes can see, I broke a bone from each of her assailants before whisking her off to safety.

She was trembling, her pupils were dilated and her heartbeat louder than a bass drum not fully understanding what had just happened except for the fact that she was saved.

I walked her home to prevent such an incident from repeating itself as she was terrified and mentally broken.

We took a long way home because it was safer and it made her more comfortable. Even though I knew, I could have just whisked her away to safety and just disappear immediately without being seen but for the very first time in a thousand years...I cared.

We walked the safe road in silence, while the moon continued to mock me as it lit up not just the environment but my crooked face, which was a result of my lack of proper diet.

The silence was broken when we finally approached her home and she thanked me for rescuing her, I nodded and returned her thanks with a low-pitched smile and a heavy but friendly grunt.

Days passed, and we never met again until one night she visited the bar where I worked as a bartender even though I own the place.

She walked in with her friends, they were all happy, laughing and giggling. They dressed in their thank God it's Friday outfit, which as a bartender for a thousand years, I have become able to ascertain.

They began to approach the counter, they were five in number, herself included. And that was when our eyes met for the first time. She stared at me for a brief moment that felt like hours before it finally clicked. She smiled and waved at me, I returned the favor, and then we began to talk.

She introduced me to her friends as her dark knight, the mysterious hero who saved her from a dark fate, and together we had a brief moment of laughter and giggles. Soon after we got to discuss more ourselves ignoring her friends who were busy celebrating with drinks and scoping out the attractive men in the bar.

But of course, I didn't tell her anything about me being a vampire because that would have been a terrible conversation starter. so instead we talked about herself, and my job as a bartender, and at the moment, I could sense a warm tingling sensation within me, my heart felt warm my body felt at ease, and face with a smile, froze constantly.

Unlike her friends who were mindless slay queens in persona. ... She, was a breath of fresh air.

That day, we exchanged numbers and kept in touch ever since.

And with Jennifer in my life, everything changed. I began to smile again, I laughed again, and I found meaning in life again. She became my reason to live. Any day without her felt like another thousand years of pain, sorrow, and darkness.

We spent so much time together, at picnics, at weddings, at the cinemas, and even at her home. We were having some much fun I didn't notice when we accidentally fell in love and broke the curse.

It was my greatest undoing...

Because, once the spell was broken, I faded into nothing. I vanished with no trace, no calls, no text, Just a memory and a broken heart for my dearest Jennifer.
