Guy's, today was a day that I won't forget for a long time, it was one of them days that made me smile with joy a day where even if it rained wouldn't have stopped me from my beaming smile.
We made a choice yesterday to stay at home and rest, with the weather being, well not great, it was in our best interest to stay at home and get some odd jobs out of the way.
We knew that we were going to taking a trip down the allotment and weighing up when to go is the most important thing as we need to be productive.
If we chose to go in the rain, nothing would get done, and the kids like we found out the last time we went when it rained just sat around with dull faces asking to go home all the time.
With my camera in my hand, I started to take pictures of the allotment as we got to work.
Today's choice was to make a start sowing carrots, and weeding out the strawberry patch.
My oldest kid sowed the seeds and did two wells for the seeds to go in, my youngest then got his dinosaur watering can and watered the seeds.
While they sorted out the carrots I got to work on the strawberry and raspberry patch, the previous plot holders had planted these a year or so ago and not kept up with the weeding.
After a good hour of digging and pulling I was able to get some normality back into this part of the patch.
Something that I did notice was that there are some good-sized flowers on these plants and the raspberries also look good too.
We made a plan before going to the allotment on what we were going to do today and the jobs we got done were what we planned to do, but we still had some time to do other things.
We noticed that someone had used carpet to keep the weeds down on some of the beds, there is a reason I hate carpet on the allotment.
They are so big and bulky and what do you do with them when they have served their purpose.
We decided to take them all up and the tarpaulin as well and get rid of some of the wood that the last occupants had put in.
To us it just doesn't make sense in the ideas that they had, but I think that it is also each to their own and we wanted to make our mark on what we were doing.
My wife helped me clear it out and she also cleaned the path of all the weeks which is a great help.
It is coming together nicely, I also had time to add two raised beds plant some pea plants that I had in the greenhouse at home, and I also added my tomatoes plants to the plot, they are not in the ground but they are there ready for when I need them.
These are the reasons I am so happy at the moment, it has been hard work but hopefully, it will be a productive garden and produce enough food for us to live so we don't have to go to the supermarket.
How has your day been? what have you done today? I hope that your all staying safe.
