Guys, today was another eventful day at the allotment, with our shopping out of the way we finally got to the allotment at about one but had so many little things that we had to do.
The funniest thing about today, we had to put a lock on our summerhouse, this you might think isn't as funny as I am making it out to be.
But, we were informed that we had to lock the summerhouse as part of our agreement so we did just that.
The funny think about putting a lock on our summerhouse is no one told us the size of lock to use.
I opted for the smallest lock I could find, just so it had a lock, and just so I met the criteria.
I like you think that I abide by the rules that are set out so, this lock at 69p was placed on the summerhouse to keep out the uninvited. Do you think it will work?
As I didn't want to strain myself I decided to add the straw to the strawberries I was meant to do this yesterday but never got around to it.
I went a little over the top with the straw but other than the lock you could say I don't do things by halves.
I knew that my raised beds needed filling and it has been a job I have been putting off for a few days, I raked as much muck from the path such as leaves and things and added it into the raise be so it didn't cost a fortune to fill.
I then mixed 70L of compost into the soil to make it more fertile, so when I do add my crops to the soil they will like their new home.
The raised beds are made from a sleeve from pallets and make ideal raised beds, they sit above the ground and have enough space to work around.
Are any of you gardeners? I do need some advice.
Last year we had a crazy flooding, it happened all over the UK and people lost their houses from it.
During these floods I learned that the river that my allotment plot meets at the bottom flooded.
This has coursed the soil from my summer house to the river to be really wet and it seems like it isn't drying.
I have pocked holes in to help with drainage but it seems to be the same as when I added the drainage after a week.
Is there anything I could add to the soil to dry it faster? example, when we spill water on the floor we add a towel to clear it up.
With the water damage like it is I am losing about 35% of my allotment due to how damp it is.
I would like to grow something in it, but with how it is at the moment I just don't know what to do.
