The easy access to those things is both good and bad. On the one hand it makes that kind of history accessible to to anyone who is willing to go wandering around in the desert looking for it. I have found holes in large stone alcoves that were once used as part of a mortar and pestle and there are pottery shards lying on the ground as though they were dropped and broken yesterday. However, some people go to these places for the sole purpose of looting them and they destroy potentially valuable archaeological sites in the process.
