There are quite a few rock paintings near where I live and the desert is littered with stone tools and artifacts. They often can be quite haunting to look upon. A friend of mine once found a small knapped piece obsidian that was shaped to look like a four pointed star. It had no real purpose but someone took a lot of effort making it. In my mind, it must have meant something important to that person.
