The scorpion was a pale yellow cream and from the body to the sting it was almost diaphanous. Bobby was obviously trying to move the scorpion away from Cherine.

Cherine unfroze as Bobby muttered, “No kill Tse, no kill Tse.”

As soon as we read the latest part of Boxee, everyone began forming shields to see whether Arthur’s idea would work. We discovered one difference from his story. We can hold the shield and levitate it. Actually, levitating the shield is almost part of the process of creating and maintaining it. Robbie and Jade immediately began designing a number of vehicles, using a light alloy skeleton so that it can provide a number of conveniences. We’ve had to include radar since we see this becoming a must-have for all Cherinians and the skies will soon be full of them.

It was not long before our friends built theirs and then other Cherinians and now even the Ipohin have them. The skeletons are easy to manufacture and stores are selling them, as designed by Robbie and by Jade, so you could say we have a number of models. Those by Jade are very popular with the younger Cherinians.

Lusalith is still able to dream dance. She suggests that as she changes to an adult she will lose the ability. I can’t see why, it is not as if she has puberty to face like we do. We’re keeping our fingers crossed for her, but Dommi is also practising entering her mind on a regular basis so that it becomes familiar enough for them to sense each other and share. In her latest dream dance, Lusalith created an e-car for herself and flew all over Freddie.

I talked with her about her god, without directly betraying any confidences. I saw that her god was right, they really have no clue as to how it feels for her and think that when their god becomes an adult and passes on her position and becomes a city leader, that it is by choice they do not have a family. I told her that to her god it feels as if she is an uninvited and it distressed her.

I could write twenty pages about the reactions of the governments, the public and the churches of all faiths when they learnt about the DD god. When they were shown (for most of them on tv) the new treehouse created by her within hours, the world went a little hysterical. They have now created a new church called the Dream Dancer Devotees (DDD Church). As the church gains in popularity and branches open all over the world, Lusalith and her people feel bemused and don’t know what to think. Of course we won't tell her that those who started the new religion are doing it for the money - and maybe power - it earns them. I don't think she can handle 'cynicism' as well as we Terrans do. They feel that in some way it is complimentary to their god, so they are not displeased. I do not know any other species that adopts gods and creates new religions as a fad, as ours does.

Robbie did something really sweet. We were at a coffee shop, teasing each other as usual, when we noticed Robbie was not paying us much attention. He was moodily watching a young man who was sitting at a table by himself, an espresso before him and a newspaper in his hands hiding his face. We had felt him, but we cannot interfere every time we feel somebody is miserable. It is amazing how many get angry with us if we do. Anyway, this guy was so miserable that he could die, but coupled with his misery was a hurting that was apart or should I say, in addition to the hurting of his misery.

Robbie took his cigarettes and sat at the guy’s table. “You can tell me to leave if you want, but you are hurting me, I had to ask if I can help.”

He put down his paper and his pale face sort of froze in shock - he obviously recognised Robbie. “Thank you, but I don’t think even you can help.”

“Sometimes just talking about a problem helps. Try it.”

“I’m in love.”

“She doesn’t love you?”

“This is the part you won’t believe, I’m certain she does, very much. The trouble is she does not want to love me. She told me that love is not a real emotion and only causes misery and she is determined not to make things worse by allowing herself to be with me. I can see how miserable her decision is making her, but she refuses to change her mind.”

“Was she hurt badly by someone else?”

“That’s what is driving me crazy, she tells me she has never loved before and I think she is telling the truth.”

Robbie asked him a few more questions, sensed he is telling the truth and became genuinely puzzled at the ways Normals find to hurt themselves.

“Superficially, from what I see, you are quite good looking, you seem to be well educated and I feel you are a nice person, sensitive to others. From the clothes you are wearing I’d say you are comfortably off financially. I don’t see anything that would make a woman fear to love you. If I may advise you, I’d suggest that if you love her, then don’t give up. We humans have many reasons for fearing love, but usually all we need is the persistence of love to reassure us.” He smiled. “Wear her down by refusing to accept her denial of her love for you.” He paused, as if worried. “It is not good for you to sit by yourself, join us at our table. Pavlo, don’t jump from the frying pan into the fire by falling in love with one of my girls.” The way he said it, it was as if he feared the guy could steal us from him and it did wonders for his ego.

We tried to bolster his ego by concentrating on him and it did cheer him up. Claudia, with her typical Scandinavian forthrightness said to him. “You know we heard what you told Robert? Will you tell me the girls name?”

He blushed. “Why?”

“I want to meet her and find out why she feels the way she does. It is not natural, something must have frightened her.”

“Avgi Mamadaki, she lives in Kefalari.” He gave her the street address after she promised not to let Avgi know that he’d given it to her or that she even knows him. Cheerfully she promised and made a note of his cell phone number.

Once he was gone she said, “This time I’m going to find out.”

“What do you mean ‘this time’?”

I hope you enjoy reading this story of fantasy, adventure and love - and should some of it be true for our reality, I hope you will love our Cherine.
