Each of the species created a team, including the Fegorians, as all of us can have any body shape we want in the dream. The Unation are treated as being of one species but the Meéjeira, although now part of the Unation, are treated as a separate species. They asked for Haven, Robyn and Empathia to join their team. I guess they are the most likely to win. Candy was happy as we brought Iziko (just for him to watch).

Each team is made up of dancers within the dream, but their supporters are also important as they, between them, decide what wins are awarded to each dancer of both sides.

As we prepared for bed that night, Cassie said, “Tomorrow changes the history of Cherinians. We’ll never again be able to say we don’t go to battle and fight wars. If we win, everyone will say that we used our Cherinian gifts and advanced scientific tools and if we lose, we’ll be laughed at. I vote we elect Arthur as the single person who has caused all Cherinians the greatest damage ever.”

Because of you being angry with me, not one of them laughed. They all looked to me for a response. I grinned at her. “It will be interesting to see how he reacts when I write exactly what you said.” We all had a lovely night of loving except for Cassie and Jade who were too tense to relax. For my imps I am forced to make an exception and speak. Good luck my darlings and dance well. Love you.

The two of them just about glowed throughout breakfast. I’m certain they don’t mind anymore that they missed out last night .

To be honest, I’m fascinated by Lusalith’s chatoyant eyes and enchanted by her cheerfulness. She is not intimidated by our larger size, even though Skotos frightens her. I wonder why she chose to ride him in her dream, is it a form of therapy or was she just impressed by my riding him? For this once, Robbie seems to be more enchanted by the adults. I think it is because of the way they have been careful to take a back seat, as if our presence is actually a part of Lusalith’s dream, allowing her to make decisions on their behalf.

The Inguel worked at night to prepare boats and carts for us. They made certain they have flaws that will cause them to break easily. We’ve been told that our teams should not be made up out of more than thirty persons per team but we may have hundreds per team participating as audience and judges. Hiahi has elected not to be on his team, but they are all excited as this is the first time this many of the Fegorians will be projecting. In honour of our hosts they are all going as locals. Since my healer has only examined Lusalith, it will look as if there are hundreds of her in the audience.

By the way, I have asked what they call themselves as a species and they answered ‘the people’ - sort of reminded me of Efineh’s people. Since the words in their language are not easy for any of us to pronounce, involving various sounds mixed in with a whistling that is not all within range of Terran ears, I’ll continue calling them the Dream Dancers (DD). I’m not going to try to give the real names of their Cities-Empires. Just in case there are some purists like Robbie in our future family and they are wondering how they can describe their cities as empires, the answer is simple. Each city state considers itself an empire that governs the entire planet. They each do so in description only and do not seem to be tempted to try to do so in fact. I bet our Terran politician are going to struggle to understand how the system works here, I know the alien politicians and social scientists in Freddie are arguing in private their various theories. Their politics must be horrendous. We found out today that their god does not live in any of their cities. Her palace is almost the size of a city with shops and various services as the number of DD who nurture their god and see to her edicts being disseminated and implemented by all the cities are in the thousands. When the palace passed under Freddie, Freddie was not the only one to use his recording tools to make a record of it and he zoomed in for as much detail as he could. It is beautiful and has the same feature all cities have; a large number of streams, rivers, lakes and ponds.

The dream dancer battles will not be taking place in one common area, as each empire wants the battle fought on its own lands. They have assured us that they do not mind that half the battles will be during the night. Each team, with their DD jumped directly to their battlefield, carrying their tools of war with them. We could not believe it when Robbie told us he wants to go with the Akiards, but Cherine approved of his idea so we did not complain.

Robert: Allow me to insert my comments. The DD in Freddie had not reacted to the ferocious appearance of the Akiards and I was keen to see how the crowds would react. They do not seem to recognise that the Akiards are built to be warriors and only discussed among themselves what the reasons could be for their evolution providing them with this sharp angle or that spike, comparing them to the vestiges of small spikes they have at a few sensitive spots on their own bodies. The Akiards themselves are bemused by the reaction (or lack of one) and I have a feeling they are enamoured of this species.

Sam again. I will not write of the various dream dancer battles, I’ll only describe the one I took part in, since it caused me so much trouble.

The father of Lusalith is named, something like this ‘he-who-writes-reports-for-new-stock-to-be-ordered’. It is abbreviated in a unique way so that he does not have the same name as all those who do the same job. Lusalith calls him Perriansini, so that is the name we’ll stick to.

Captain of our team was Alki and I was the only one of our family as we wanted to give the other Terrans a chance to take part. We landed at a big lake about sixty kilometres down river from the hamlet I’d visited and we found ourselves surrounded by thousands of DD. I would have expected a sort of picnic atmosphere, but it was closer to a religious gathering, but with everyone excited, their whistling speech filling the air as they commented on our boat and our appearance. They soon realised that a number of us are children, so they encouraged their children to meet us.

Alki, Perriansini and the others taking part gathered to discuss strategy. I took the hand of Lusalith in mine and joined them. Perriansini was not impressed by our strategy.

“Those are for the dreams of children or even spiflt, not for an Empire battle.” Alki glanced at me, wary of adopting a plan that could win us the battle. I gave him a wink.

“If we use this strategy and aim directly for ramming their ship they will think of us as spiflt in our abilities?”

“Sadly it is so Samantha.”

“Good, then that is exactly what we do. I’m taking Lusalith back to Freddie for a few minutes for us to plan a secret strategy.” I jumped with her before they could protest.

“You’ve seen the birds in Freddie and how they fly. Dream yourself into a bird and learn to fly.” I only gave her fifteen minutes to practice and called for her to come out of her dream. “From what you’ve told me, when the ships are about to ram, the wheel is tied so that all can attack as they all want a part of the glory. As soon as they do so, you will change to a bird and fly to their wheel. Wait until we are almost crashing and then change back and untie the wheel and spin it away from us. The ship should list so that the strongest parts are above our ship and we’ll hole them.”

She began to tremble. “You cannot give such glory to a child, it must be an adult.”

“You are a child, I am a child, we thought of it, why should we give the glory to anyone else? We have to return.” I took her hand and jumped. Her father soon realised she was shaking from nerves, but he was too busy trying to instil some common sense in us and then we had to enter the dream battle. The world tilted for a moment and then we found ourselves on the deck of a beautiful ship.

Alki touched Perriansini, “Do not despair, Samantha is our best tactician, our strategy may or may not win us the battle, but it will be interesting.”

He glanced at me and I smiled, Lusalith’s reaction filling me with confidence “No ifs Alki, we will win.”

The ship was sailed out on to the lake in a large curve and then very obviously swung in to ram the other ship. It gave them plenty of time to position themselves so that the collision would destroy our ship without harming them. Lusalith and I watched the navigator until we saw he’d tied the wheel. I held her back a moment, estimating the time until collision and then shouted at her to go. She shapeshifted and with a few running steps took off. Her father watched her, stunned, forgetting about his dancing for a moment.

The ‘enemy’ watched her until they saw that she did not hold any weapons and prepared themselves for boarding us. I kept my eyes on Lusalith as she struggled to undo the knot. Finally, by chance, she pulled at one end and it fell apart. She swung over, spinning the wheel until it locked. The ship could not handle such a fast turn and the deck facing us rose into the air just as we smashed into them. A few of the ‘enemy’ fell over onto our deck and I panicked, afraid we’d hurt them.

Perriansini danced the dance of glory, calling to Lusalith to join him. She danced on the wheelhouse of the other ship as it sank. As she sank out of sight the dream ended.

Robbie was furious. “All the other teams lost as agreed and now all our friends think we made them look like fools on purpose! Why is it that when everybody follows the rules, Samantha is always the exception!”

“We didn’t win, Lusalith did.”

“That is not what all the cities are reporting.”

“They’re crowing over their overwhelming successes Dad and even their one loss was to the glory of a daughter of the Empire that lost. Our friends know why I did it and nobody else thinks I was wrong to help Lusalith win.”

“That is not the point. When we all agree to act in unison as a team, you do not go off on your own and change the rules. When are you going to learn to conform Sam?” I could have replied, quoting many of his past speeches, but I kept quiet.

isi-mi asked Syrina in a very soft voice, “I belong to two teams, one that won and one that lost. Does that make me a winner or a loser?”

Robbie answered her, “A loser. All of us are losers because of Samantha - the difference is that the others who lost are winners because they acted as Cherinians.”

Cherine’s soft voice cut across his, “Enough Robert.” He looked at her and going to his usual seat sat down, expecting his coffee to be brought. His face reddened when he realised Maria did not intend bringing him a coffee. Cherine sat by him and took his hand in both of hers.

“You are acting like an atrabilious Normal. Everyone is glad that Sam helped give Lusalith a dream of glory that will be talked about for years. Why are you so angry?”

“I never know where I am with her. I took the trouble to ask for her opinion, she laid out the rules and we all did as she asked and then she goes off and does her own thing.”

“Would we have been angered if any other team had decided to win? Since when have we become so rigid?”

Maria brought his coffee and cigarettes as he said, “Sometimes I feel like a ship without a rudder, drifting, lost, on an ocean without any control.”

Cherine sat with chin cupped in her hands, elbows on the table as she stared at Robbie. “Fine, this applies only to the family. Until I say otherwise, Robert makes all decisions and is in total control. We will only do what he wants until he has found his rudder again.”

Suddenly Robbie looked as if he felt foolish. “Cherine.” He paused. “My family is my rudder, I was being stupid.”

“Do you know where your rudder is taking you?”

“Huh?” He sat up, glanced at us in case any of us understood. “What do you mean - or rather, what are you implying?”

She ignored his question. “I was wondering, does the rudder control the ship or does the ship control the rudder? Should either of them be considered as controlling the other or should they be thought of as one organism?”

“I’ve already admitted I was being stupid.” He saw the way to stop Cherine and coming to his feet walked to me. “Samantha, I’m sorry.”

“Actually, you just did me a big favour, thanks Dad. It’s time I go chat to Arthur, I have some apologising to do.”

One of the joys, for me, of meeting a new species, is that every day has its surprises that force me to look at the commonplace in a new way. Lusalith was not available for meeting us the next day as she was being feted by those of her empire. We took a tour of the planet and it is definitely one of the beauty spots of the universe - to our Terran eyes.

The next day Lusalith was a bit low on energy, so I brought her to Freddie and we took it easy while my healer did what it could to restore her. Just before she left, she told me they will be returning to the city the next day.

“Are you planning to return to meet me at our next dream time?”

“I wasn’t planning on leaving yet. Aren’t we allowed to visit you at your city home?”

I sensed she was being evasive when she replied, but I could not work out the reason. “It is better you do not. I will be very busy with my studies as the results of this year will indicate what my adult work should be.”

“Do you have to do the work they choose for you?”

“Oh no, it is just wiser.”

“We’d like to meet your god, who do we ask?”

“I’ll ask my father, I’m not certain.”

“We’ll see you tomorrow then.”

A few others of her people were visiting friends they’d made the previous day at the dream dance battles, so I asked my healer to examine them so that it can form an opinion of what optimum health would be for them, as I was determined to ensure Lusalith will be healthy for a long time if we are not to see her soon. It returned and it showed that it is puzzled. It told me that either Lusalith is very ill and likely to die within the year, or else females are different and the information it has is not relevant to them. Robbie quickly made a platform and we floated over hamlets and villages as our healers examined males, females, adults, children and spiflt.

All the healers agree, Lusalith is dying.

I collected her early in the morning and while she was with us in Freddie, Robbie visited her father. We shared with him so he did not have to break the news - her father knows and so does Lusalith. The reason she did not want us to visit her in the city is because she is soon to be hospitalised. She does not expect to leave the hospital alive.

It is a genetic disorder and one in six children suffer the same problem. It is rarely that any of the females who have the disorder become adults. Lusalith is determined to die with an adult name and both her fathers are using all their influence to help make her dream come true. Apparently the reason for so many children having the same genetic disorder has something to do with the fact that they, as a species, did not adapt completely to their change of habitat, from water to air. It also explains why so much of their farming is underwater. Apart from insects (a much smaller than expected variety) there are very few other land animals, most of the life on this planet still exists underwater.

Despite his anguish, Perriansini had not forgotten our request. “To meet the god, it is customary for a gift to be sent with the request. I would send it for you, but I am not wealthy enough to buy a gift worthy of you.”

“The gift I’ll send will not cost any money Perriansini. Let her know that our gift is the healing of all the sick children, to start off. Once they are all healed, we’ll heal all adults.” His shock was almost palpable to Robbie so he smiled. “By the time Lusalith returns home she will be healed. Your child will not die Perriansini. We need to know, the sick children, the most urgent cases, would they all be in the hospitals?”

7285

“You cannot heal them!” Robbie was about to protest, but he sent a whistling scream of anguish. “Our god is always from those who have the ailment. You cannot leave us without a god. You must not heal Lusalith.”

“But…Lusalith told us your gods become leaders of the empires when they become adults!”

“They are the only ones who survive the illness.”

We’d already sent our healers to Lusalith, so Robbie was forced to tell him, “Your daughter is already being healed, it is too late to stop.”

His eyes paled and he swayed. “This will ruin our world.”

“How can healing your children destroy your world?”

“There will be wars now, for there are always those who hunger for glory.” He hunched over and then straightened, his innate sense of fairness and courtesy forcing him. “Please forgive me, I did not realise what I was saying. You have acted with honour and as friends and you did not know the consequences. Please, you must not blame yourselves. Lusalith will be distressed if her friend Samantha is hurt by my careless words.”

“We will survive it, I want a full explanation.”

“Only female children suffer and die from this disorder, males are only carriers. That is why only we and the female children who have the disorder can dream dance. Once you have healed all the children and adults, there will be no more dream dance battles and soon one of the empires will wish to prove it is the Empire and attack another city. As I said, there are always those who dream of glory.” Robbie made no promises, only asking him how he can meet him once they are back in the city. He agreed to meet us at the end of the fourth day at a landmark we’ll easily recognise. Freddie moved to normal space so that they know we are still here.

The facts are that they are a species that have a unique gift and they have used it (sensibly) to satisfy their impulsive need for ‘glory’ without killing each other and destroying themselves. Few species have that distinction. However, their gift is a result of a genetic malfunction (if I may call it that since returning to live in the water is not a suitable option, just as we as a species could not return to living in trees and walking on all four limbs to avoid the back problems so many Terrans used to suffer from). How do we heal them without destroying them? There is also the fact that for as long as their need for glory is only satisfied in the way it is, they can never become Cherinians, at best only individuals qualifying.

We agreed that we will not stop healing, but will only concentrate on those close to death or suffering. The job was taken over by the other species and we suspect that their compassion and empathy probably leads them to healing children who suffer mildly and are not at risk if we delay a few weeks, but we cannot fault them, we too would have been tempted.

“Seeing how our own history of war is bound to prejudice us, shouldn’t we ask those species who have not killed each other to decide the ethics?” Rosie asked.

“Our own history is exactly why we must be part of the process Rosie, the Sparklers for instance would not understand the forces that drive them, whereas we would.”

7286

Cherine, as usual, was quiet, but her mind was churning. Her empathy was faced by two opposing factors, the one just as bad as the other. We cannot let them die and yet we cannot heal them without causing deaths that will be even more brutal. This species has existed just as long as ours has, but they lag far behind us in technological innovations. They do not seem to be mechanically inclined, but I believe the lack of pressures war causes has brought them to a level of stagnation such a young species should not be suffering from. At this time we do not know how much of an influence their god has on them and whether she is partly a cause of their low level technology, as it is likely that such a god would be conservative. On the other hand, their god is only a god for as long as she is a child.

Two days passed without us arriving at a solution, when Freddie announced that a DD female child has arrived and is walking around without a sheath. Urgently Robbie jumped to where Freddie saw her.

“You are Robert?”

“Yes. You arrived without being sheathed against our germs and bacteria, I must sheath you before we talk.”

“It is not necessary Robert, but if it provides you with comfort, please do so.”

He tried to and his sheath instantly dissolved. “You are the one your people call a god?”

“You have finished? Yes, I am.”

“My sheath will not maintain itself, have you a sheath of your own?”

“A sheath? That is some form of protective covering? My aura protects me Robert.”

He gave up, despite his ‘protector’ side clamouring he does something as she could infect us with micro forms of life that we do not have any immunity to. “Welcome to Freddie. Would you like to meet my family and friends? Do you have a name we may use?”

“A name? I am god Robert, what use would I have for a name until I am an adult?” She broadcast her amusement. “You would not be comfortable using my title since I am not your god, why not name me Lusalith since it is a name you are pleasantly connected to? May we meet close to water? Your air is unpleasantly dry.”

By the time they arrived we had placed chairs and tables along the shore close to the taverna and the leaders of all the species were waiting for them. Robbie introduced them. She soon showed that underneath it all she is a child (or a god?), for she followed her own wishes and thought patterns, ignoring protocol.

“You are Samantha, first friend of Lusalith? I am told our father sent you to us? I have come to you as I am eager to learn his name.”

“Arthur.” (I did give her your real name). “He dreamt of your world and your dream dancers and empires and wanted me to meet Lusalith.”

“He did not mention me? He did not dream of me?”

I had to think quickly, I dared not lie for she just might be able to sense me and I do not like lying anyway. “Why would he dream of you? Surely gods do not dream of each other?” Her eyes turned bright blue. Inspiration hit me and I asked. “Would you like to speak with Arthur? We can only communicate by the written word, but surely it is the communicating and exchanges of thoughts that is important?”

I doubt any of her people have ever seen her so nervous. “I could? Please. May we do so tomorrow, I am not dressed for speaking to him.”

7287

The Lusalith god came to visit another two times. She was quick to understand Arthur’s proposal and agreed that if Lusalith wishes to be with us for a time, then she will be named a student of the Cherinians. I asked her what adult name she will be given and she pulled a fast one on me and suggested she should be a Samantha. I pretended not to sense her amusement.

“Why Samantha? I would have expected something like a Cherine.”

“No, she is a Cherinian, Lusalith will be a student of Cherinianism just like you.”

I liked that and I noticed my loves also did. “Still, it would not be fair to give her a name like that. The type of student she will be is called a generalist by us. Why not call her Genna as short for whatever her full title will be?”

She laughed, delighted that I’d played along. “It is for her or her fathers to choose her name.”

She talked about Arthur and herself. “People do not realise that being a god always has a price to it. The price I’ve had to pay was the sacrificing of my being a child. People expect me to be carefree like a child, but think deeply on their problems and find solutions. I watched Samantha and Lusalith in their first shared dream and I ached to run with them. I watched her ride on Asimi and I too loved the sweetness of her mind.”

Alki asked, “You enter the minds of others?”

“Only if I fear for the safety of my people. I sensed Samantha when she first arrived and knew immediately that she was not of my people so, when Lusalith met her I watched. I stayed with her to learn more about you and that is how I saw this world that carries you. I was puzzled as to where it was, but you explained to Lusalith so when she returned home I returned on my own to the place you name the void. It is so beautiful, so full of energies!”

7288

Robbie asked, “You could sense the energies?”

“Are they not there to be sensed, like pulsing rivers of colour?”

“Apart from the Sparklers and myself, you are the first to see them. I am impressed. Cherine, would she be suitable for linking?”

She turned serious. “Be more careful of what you offer me Robert. Think of one change you would wish for your travel world Freddie.”

His face was like granite as he stared at her. “I can’t think of anything, I’m happy with it as it is.”

I suggested, “There is still a fifth treehouse to be built, as I saw when you found me.”

“Think of it Samantha, picture it in your mind.” I couldn’t believe she was being serious, but I did as she asked.

At the spot where the treehouse shall be we saw a haze form over the land. Robbie quickly jumped closer, making certain no creature is being harmed. He watched without quite believing his eyes as a tree grew alongside the inner shield. From being a tree it gradually changed and by the time it was over a hundred metres tall rooms were beginning to form inside it and windows and balconies appeared.

Everybody in Freddie came outside to watch as it grew. By the time it was the same height as the other treehouses, seven hours had passed and she began to droop. I sent my healer to help her, but it could not enter her. She turned her head to glance at me and I was worried to see her eyes were a dull grey colour.

We watched through Robbie as he flew close to the windows and looked inside. All the rooms are empty. He entered an apartment that had achieved its size and found all the fixtures have been included, with bathrooms and kitchens that included drainage and water pipes.

She shuddered and sagged. “It is done.”

When Robbie and the Inguel create a treehouse it takes them months. This was beyond belief. I took her hand in mine.

“Allow my healer to help you, you are drained.” She gestured and I sent my healer again. This time it was allowed to help.

She was amused once more. “You thought my people are backward and superstitious and I am just a token god? You have not given consideration to an important aspect of being a god. No one can be a god if nobody believes. My people give me the power to be their god.”

Cherine asked, “If you have such power, why haven’t you helped heal your people? If Arthur says it can be done without taking away their ability to dream dance, surely you have the ability to see the solution yourself?”

She did not answer, changing the subject - I think. “There will only be one god after me. The rest will be shadows, for only a few will believe in them.”

“Why should they stop believing? Do you mean it will happen because we’ll heal them?”

“No, it will happen because they will believe in Cherine.” She paused, as if gauging whether we are ready to hear what she has to say. “They will be Cherinians.”

Sol asked her, “Should we leave, never to return?”

“You must not! How else can we bring our Father? I and the one that follows, we must help. Once he is here we will have performed our final duty as gods and we will not be needed anymore.”

Haven was curious. “Why is it that important to you that we bring him here?”

“It is a debt.” Haven nodded in agreement.

7289

The next day she asked to be alone with me for a while.

“Samantha, you talk about every person, of any species, being a god. That is true?”

“In a sense.”

“That is not a clear answer, but I am not interested in arguing theories. Tell me, how can you ever be a god since you do not believe in yourself? Can you be a god with no one believing in you, not even you?”

I gave an embarrassed laugh. “Are you saying I am the only one?”

“No, but the others sense they have a place in the scheme of life. You are still searching and all answers you find, you only use them to ask new questions. You must first gather into yourself all that you are for you to grow from a base, so that the new questions and their answers add to what is there already. No blade grows if there are no roots, no tree can grow branches if there is no trunk to support them.” She took my hand. “You use the healer for your body. What do you use for your mind? When parts of it are not well or they cannot grow anymore, should there not be a healing?”

“I am not certain I can find such a healer.”

“But you already have such healers. Look to your family and friends.”

I tried to change the subject, as I’d rather worry about it on my own. “If you had not liked me that first time I came to your world, what would you have done?”

“If not for Arthur? I would have sent you away. If you had returned - I don’t know.”

“Are you telling me you could send Freddie away from your world?”

“Away…from all the worlds of our…you call it reality?”

“Yes.”

“Would you wish me to send you to meet a new species in a different reality?”

“Without writing for us in our diary?” I saw her puzzlement. “I’m sorry, I was being flippant.” (Because you frighten me, I silently added).

We walked awhile in silence while I brooded on what a calamity for us she could have been if they were not such nice people or if their natures had been more predacious. I tried to imagine what it must be like to have such powers and then I wondered what it must be like when she has to give them up.

“Do you lose all your god powers when you become an adult?”

“Thank goodness!” She talked and I sensed that she has never had someone to open herself to, that inside her she is a lonely child. “The fixation of my people on glory for self blinds them to me. They see the ultimate glory for me in being what I am. They see the powers they give me as elevating me. It is not the powers that give glory Samantha, it is the use of those powers. Any powers a person has can be a curse to them, but a blessing to others, but the others will never be capable of understanding that. I have given my child years to my people willingly, but they will also take my adult years because of their fixation. I will never have a male hold me to his home so that I feel I am not alone. I will help lead a city and return to loneliness each night. I will never father a child, for it is feared that a child of a god might be different as I could alter the eggs within me so that my child or children would be far above them. Do you wonder that most gods throughout our history have died while still young as adults? We are as the uninvited that Lusalith told you about.” She rambled on for another twenty minutes, breaking my heart with the pictures her words painted within my mind. She stopped to gaze at the waterfall below us and she breathed with pleasure the moistness. “Samantha, I have spoken to you of what a god never speaks of because in many ways you Cherinians are my sisters - even the males who are like Robert. When you wonder whether your lives were worth living, remember that one who is not a Cherinian understood and saw the real glory in you, not the glory others see.”

7290

I could only think of one way for me to repay her. “Let’s have a swim while we wait, for a friend comes to meet you.”

When Asimi arrived we were both in the water, still frolicking like children. Her head rose above the water to stare and then she softly thanked me. They left with her on the back of Asimi, her arms holding onto her trunk as they talked and soon I heard laughter. I walked alone for a while before returning to the taverna.

We did not take her up on her offer and I’ll always wonder to what new species she would have sent us. We were foolish not to agree, for I have a feeling she would have only sent us to a people who need us - as Arthur does. Lusalith, her two fathers and sixty eight families (two from each empire) moved to Freddie. We leave with an open invitation to return whenever we wish, even though she knows our return will change her people.

The creation of a new treehouse paled into insignificance when Diana asked Lusalith, “How is it your planet is like a garden of gently rolling slopes with streams, rivers and lakes everywhere? Did your people contour the land?”

“Our people? No, we have not the power to do so, it was a god of long ago. She saw that our limbs are brittle and break easily on the land and that we need water to always be close by, so she changed our world. All gods since then maintain it so that it does not change.”

We returned to Athens, taking a week to give the DD time to grow used to us and for us to tell them a little about our world and our ways. I know better than to ask Arthur what he thinks the chances of their god successfully help bring him is, but I sure can hope. She sounded so certain of herself.

I hope you enjoy reading this story of fantasy, adventure and love - and should some of it be true for our reality, I hope you will love our Cherine.
