As I returned to the ‘entrance’ of my mind, I sensed none had tried to enter. Both pleased and a bit miffed, I gave myself a moment, like taking a deep breath, and opened my eyes.

Dommi smiled. “Take it easy Sam, Arthur tricked you, I think he meant it as a kindness; he made the writing between you appear in our diary in the real world. As you can probably sense, everyone is feeling quite a bit shell-shocked. Your idea on its own was enough of a stunner for a lifetime; having Arthur add his theory has really thrown everyone for a loop.” Maria appeared with coffees and she served me my cappuccino first. I sensed that she has shared, for her eyes were also filled with awe. Arthur, I am grateful that you spared me the job of explaining to all.

But then Dommi added, “Since your last writing with him appeared, about eighteen hours have passed. We told everyone else to go home and we’ll call them when you return, but as you see, everyone insisted on staying; it was a bit like they were keeping vigil with us.”

Many were itching to start debating what has been said and were only waiting to be certain I am up to it. Robbie cut them short by saying. “Solomon, can the Sparklers deal with the grape system? Whatever else we decide, we stick to the rule that we always help those people we know - to not do so would affect our own humanity. We have time for debating the pros and cons of helping everyone, but we’ll only start from tomorrow, once everyone has had some time to think on what we learnt today - oh, Solomon, don’t save the grape system right now, I don’t think we should spoil it for the scientists. Once they have gathered the information they want, then you can help the grape species.”

Of course my loves laughed and protested at his naming them the grape species, helping many to relax and wait for tomorrow. I’m still feeling too battered to take part in such a discussion and their emoting is far too strong for me to bear, so I’m going back home - now that I have brought the diary up to date, with your help, I am going to look for a feel-good movie and relax with a full box of chocolates (ours don’t have the chemicals and GMO’s yours have, so it is okay ).

It did surprise me that my family stayed at the taverna for another two hours, but maybe they were trying to time it for when I am ready to sleep. I was already in bed when they appeared.

I’m going to add here details Sam left out. When she says the emotions, of everyone in general, was too strong for her to bear, she was indulging in extreme understatement. The emoting was directed at her, and yet, none of us could bear it, but we had to stay behind for her sake. Try to imagine how everyone would react to what Sam has made possible with what she usually calls her ‘obvious’ idea…and you are likely to be wrong, or at least, not have imagined it in enough detail.

The first feelings are stunned amazement and awe. Till this point, all is fine and even fun and ego-building for most people. But with each second, so does their understanding of what could happen/be done, grow like wildfire, igniting their imaginations so that they see deeper and really start to understand what a change Sam has brought us - whether we do as she suggested or not.

While imagining all I have just written of, add a background to all of it, which is extremely important. We are Cherinians, which means that empathy has been tearing at us as we imagine/face the fact of so many species being wiped out…plus we are imagining we can sense the helpless terror they will feel, for they do not each only have to face their own death, but also that of every single entity of their species, including their own children. The pain is unimaginable and we only survive it because we have to. The mental defences we are each using to survive such a horrendous series of events suddenly is blasted apart as Samantha shows us how easy it is to save all of them.

The see-sawing of our emotions ends up tearing at us and then it blossoms like a sun, or as if it is something in a pressure-cooker, and then it explodes out as love and adoration. Now, if you can, imagine that blast striking you from tens of millions of hearts.

Cherine sneaked in some persuasion so that Sam left us and went home. We stayed behind to try to block from her the emoting we could sense was building up and ready to explode. Alki was not of much use, as he too was exploding with his feeling for her, but somehow Allan controlled himself. I think his connection to her soul warned him he will be needed. With his help and the help of Freddie, we managed to block from Sam most of what was being directed at her. Watching a movie (concentrating on it) and enjoying her chocolates helped block off whatever leaked through our blockade. We needed nearly two hours to recover to the point where we can be with Sam, without her being able to sense how shattered we are feeling inside. Cherine made a big mistake by changing herself to a two year old. I’ll let Sam write of it.

Everyone dashed off for a quick shower, their discarded clothes flying directly into the wash basket. Cherine was the first back and she lay down almost upon me and then changed to a two year old. I pulled her onto me and, I admit, I wondered why she is feeling so strongly her love for me.

*I think you have saved me, Sam - or, if not already saved me, then getting close to it.*

“What do you mean?” I asked, feeling confused.

*Every time you do something like you just did, giving new hope and life to one, or to thousands or millions of species, don’t you feel how the love and admiration of you grows among all Cherinians? I’m hoping the day soon arrives when I can become second on their list…*

I almost knocked her off me as I violently rejected the possibility (and panicked), and shouted, “No, you must always remain number one; the only person everyone is forever committed to…” I grabbed and pulling her to me, I almost squeezed the life out of her as I fought my emotions. Luckily Robbie took her from me and I was able to sense my arms let go without worrying about harming Cherine. I then remained asleep, not even aware of dreams or of the void or even of existing, for the next two days and three nights.

When I opened my eyes, I was surprised to see the room is empty, apart from Allan, who had pulled up a chair and was sitting close to the foot of our bed. I could sense my loves monitoring me in the background and knew that some of them are at the taverna and some in our livingroom. He smiled as he saw my eyes open.

“The imps were tempted to nominate Cherine as one of them when you put on your performance and frightened everyone - especially Cherine.”

I felt too tired for games and so could not even summon up a little smile for him, but he knows I appreciate the effort he made. It must have been difficult for him - and everyone else. It makes me feel so guilty. “I could sense her as she spoke to me, Allan, but thanks for trying.” I looked him in the eyes as I added, “If you really want to help me, please find a way for me to stop being so damn afraid and sensitive.”

“Of being loved too much?”

“You make it sound stupid!”

“I can assure you, I do not intend anything of the kind. Tell me, the splinters you hold from your family, would they answer you more honestly than the originals would, if you ask them a question?”

“I don’t know…,” I was intrigued by the idea, “maybe.”

“Ask them if they would want you to change; if they would want you to be stronger for their sake. I think you know what they would answer, but the question is, do you know why?”

“I don’t understand what you are asking me.”

“Let me tell you what is one of my greatest fears. I am terrified of seeing Cherinians of all species change so that they adore our family like cult figures. Originally the protector role in this problem belonged to Robert, but since then, your reaction to them showing too much love or admiration of you is what has saved our family up to now. If you can see I am right, then maybe you will no longer need to become less sensitive and afraid?”

My eyes closed and I slept for another four hours. This time, when I awoke, it was Cherine and Robbie sitting next to me and I was instantly aware of hunger pangs hurting my tummy. They felt me and laughed. Robbie went to the kitchen to make me breakfast, while Cherine sat looking at me, with an almost broody air about her.

“To a certain extent, Allan was right. However, am I only imagining it, or are you becoming less capable of handling the emoting of others?”

“Not when it is love aimed at you.” She grinned, but waited for me to organise my thoughts, knowing I will try to answer her. “If I was a Normal, living among Normals, I know I would be medicated and driven crazy by specialists trying to help me analyse myself. Luckily I don’t have to put up with such nonsense, since I believe that having people who are compassionate but level-headed around me is the best treatment I could ask for. Cherine, never try to place me above you, Robbie or Dommi; after that, if you want to think of me as being close to the top of a fairly level playing field, I’ll excuse it as being born out of momentary enthusiasms. The others may not know, maybe not even Allan, but you know the truth, don’t you? I really am not strong enough to bear the load of being loved too much, especially when it is because of some stupid idea I had nothing to do with giving birth to. They just come, Cherine, either because I am looking at the small steps I am taking, without seeing where they lead, or maybe, in a way that is similar to the prophesies of Tina. Do you wonder that I feel so strongly her pain when she is knocked askew by words she is not responsible for? Thank god Arthur stopped torturing her that way.”

Cherine laughed, as did Robbie, in the kitchen. She explained, “I know he is not, but it sounds like you are thanking god that god has stopped…it is funny, stop frowning at me.”

I grinned. “Actually, I think even Arthur will appreciate your humour. Cherine, how do I go to the taverna, you can sense it, can’t you? I am quivering inside me.”

It was her turn to grin as she told me, “Don’t worry, everyone is so afraid of affecting you again, you are probably going to be miserable and complain that nobody loves you.”

Robbie placed the tray in front of me, chuckling. “Eat up, most of your quivering is from hunger. I’ll make you a promise, if you want. Sam, I promise I will let you know when it is that you do not deserve the love being offered you. The other times, just enjoy it. Okay?” I looked into his warm eyes and felt the quivering melt away. Hungrily I climbed into the large breakfast.

* * * * *

Our guests have been present and we have tried to help them understand what we are debating, but neither group show any inclination to take part, though they listen to all that is said. We must arrange for them to have some time off, as they find all of us too alien and our ideas are impossible for them to understand at this time. Cherine commented that what is happening to both species is to the good and that the more difficult they find us to understand, the more it opens them to each other - maybe they are finding that they are less alien to each other than they had thought?

Luckily we did not have any species fighting to rush out to save the multitude of species of the two galaxies facing extinction, as it seems they discussed it during my absence and are aware-concerned about the ethical problems set out by Arthur. I am not taking part in their discussions and my real problem is that I am not being entirely honest by doing so, so I don’t feel good about it; I am keeping quiet, for whatever I should argue, it could be used by the pro or anti immortality camps and I do not agree to allow anyone else to decide the fate of my loved ones and dear friends. If and when we are to discuss it, I will only take part if it is done at home and in privacy - as I tend to get carried away by my thoughts and speak before thinking and I am not willing to risk their existence on a careless thought or words. This is despite whatever anyone may say about me for being so autocratic and family orientated. Lectures I have attended have insisted that society in general must come before family and friends and I know they would say that as a member of the ruling family I have even more of an obligation to think that way. I hope they know what they can do with their stupid theories - plus, I would love to test them and find out whether they would really sacrifice their family and loved ones for an abstract theory…or do they think that only everyone else should follow their advice, but for them the rules are different? The amazing thing is that despite the appearance of the Cherinians and the fact that they have lost, having wasted so many hundreds of millions of lives for nothing, they still plan and try to find ways to affect our ways of viewing life and the world so that we think of ourselves as being lesser than they are.

Even when writing, I did not realise how I am still affected by what Cherine had made me feel-think, so she caught me by surprise when she left Robbie’s lap to sit by me.

4695

“Sam, I’ve come to apologise. Once I have done so, I will also apologise to Allan. I misled him about me wanting to play a practical joke on you by claiming the girls thought I was funny. I guess I owe our two imps an apology also.” I think that maybe my jaw was hanging loosely as I stared at her, unable to believe what I was hearing. “What I said to you when I came to you in bed, it was exactly how I was feeling. I had sensed how tens of millions in Freddie reacted to you and for a crazy moment I hoped it will lead to everyone loving you more than me. You know how I’ve never wanted this kind of life, that I’m happiest when we are alone, just the family…I often include my mother and Alki and the kids, but even them I need a break from now and then; I need time with just my own family. Sam,” anxiously she stared into my eyes, “sometimes even feeling the way you keep me on a pedestal is too much. Do you think I need to leave with Robert so often just so as to have him to myself? Sam, mostly it is because I need to have time with just myself. Haven’t you wondered why he returns so often with new paintings?”

She had not asked for privacy and empathy was breaking a lot of hearts. I saw the tears on her eyelashes, like tiny precious dewdrops, and I fought to control my emoting so as to reduce the barrage of feeling from all around. Her hand pressed mine. “Do you know why I would not want it any other way, why even when I have too many days and nights in a row with leaders and kings and so on, it still feels worth it? It is partly because you infected me.”

My lips twitched as I asked, “I think I need you to explain yourself.”

“Seeing how dedicated you are to helping make Robert's dream for the Cherinians come true, it helped me realise just how precious that dream is and it makes anything I have to endure, at those rare times when it feels as if my needs are going to shatter me, worth it a hundred times over. Your greatest gift to Robert and us, your family, was and is the ability you have of making his dream become the heart of our universe. Sam, I chose the worst time for you to indulge myself - can you forgive me?”

I tightened my lips so that she knows that my answer is very serious. “No, I cannot.” I think our other loves emoted more dismay than she did, but I ignored all of them, focussing only on her. “For me to forgive you, you would first have to forgive me for being such a pain in the butt - and I know you never will…so …”

Suddenly I was seized by a dizzying whirlwind and spun around as we rose into the skies of Freddie. I realised that Robbie was also holding Cherine and that his heart was filled with joy and love for us. I wanted to make him feel I am disappointed in him that he could believe I would be so mean, but then, with his heart exulting this way because of the two of us, how could I spoil it for Cherine? Not even though I will wish, tomorrow, that I had teased him. That’s okay, tomorrows’ Samantha will have already had a magical night of being loved, so she can afford to think pulling one on him would have been worth it; I cannot. I want the loving so that I can also, again and again, give a piece of my heart to Cherine.

The next morning, our hearts soft from a night of loving and being loved, we were also more relaxed. Cassie and Goldi were teasing Cherine and she was laughing, even her emoting that of an eight year old child. When we left home, we often like to walk at least a part of the way to the taverna, Cherine put her arm through mine and I looked down at her lovely pixie face and felt a pang. I decided a tease would be more suitable. “Cherry baby, with all the gold Robbie has stored in the other half of Freddie, what if we ask Jade to design a mini pedestal for us to sell to those who need to let their loved ones know how they feel about them? At least we’ll have two customers immediately - you and I.”

Robbie grinned. “Are you saying that only the two of you would want to give me one?”

Cherine grinned at Robbie kidnapping the moment from me, but could not resist teasing him, so she tried to look serious as she told him, “All us girls would need one for each other, but not one of us would order one for you…before we could do so, we would have to ask for the gift of an anti-gravity machine as your soul is always so heavy that we could not lift you to place you on it.”

Before he could think up a good answer, Lucy said, “That’s not fair, Cherine. After all, it’s not as if it is his fault that his soul has to be the black hole that keeps us fixed to his event horizon.”

Jade stopped walking; stared at Lucy for a moment and then stared at Robbie. “Damn, I can feel there is a good painting somewhere in the description of us by Lucy, but I can’t visualise it.” She grinned. “Lucy, what you said, it implies we are trapped forevermore, held in a devoted but eternal orbit…but don’t forget that black holes can reverse themselves and become white holes - you know what will happen then?”

“No?”

4696

“Can’t you guess what will come spewing out?…Moo?” Robbie laughed just as much as we did and we arrived at the taverna in a very good mood - which made many of our friends happy. As we began to become involved in conversations with others, we split into groups, but remained aware of each other all the time - as we always do. I waited for a moment when I would not be interrupting and drawing Sol away from everyone, I asked to speak to Solomon.

“The suggestion of saving thousands of species, can you delay it for a while? I think we need to think on it and flesh it out by examining all the pros and cons. Not just whether we can and how we can, but also whether we always should.”

“We would not have done so while still travelling backwards in time.”

“Then please discuss it with everyone, so that we have a clearer idea of what to do by the time we return to this time.”

I vaguely noticed that isi was walking towards us, but I paid attention as soon as I sensed her determined emoting. She gave us (especially me) a very formal greeting and then spoke her mind.

“Samantha, may I formally, on behalf of all CherInguel, request that you allow us, with the help of the Kinytians, should they agree, assume full responsibility for the return of all the species we accidentally destroyed? We will feel honoured if doing so contributes to you and your family being available for the saving of other species.”

“I think you should have addressed Robbie, not me.”

She sent me the feeling of a smile. “You cannot sense he feels I did the right thing, that it is as he wishes it?”

“No! How he feels has nothing to do with it, you address your question to him!”

As she made her way to him, I could feel her, with her emoting sobs of guilt in me, and I am determined to make it up to her, but I had to make my point as strongly as I can; nobody is allowed to place me above him - not even when I assume the mantle temporarily, which I have not, at this time.

I’m glad we don’t have to find a name for the people of the grape system, for they have their own name for themselves. They call themselves The Children of the Soft Light, which sounds like, ‘Hayimayno’ (pronounced Hay-ee-may-no). Their name does not only represent their sun, for they also emit a glow, a soft and gentle glow. What makes them very beautiful is that they are of a variety of colours, just like mini rainbows. When they spread themselves out, they have a span of eighteen feet and length of about twenty seven feet. The thickness of their bodies ranges from half a foot and up to two and a half feet. It seems the thickness depends on what kind of work they do.

Now comes the important part - we did not introduce ourselves to them, they did. Freddie is too far away for them to notice, partly also because of the dark energy, but they noticed the Sparklers in the void and it seems they have heard of them; they have stories about the Sparklers destroying entire species without having been provoked in any way, so they followed them from a distance, wanting to identify where their ‘cloud’ is so as to attack them. They admitted that a minority are arguing that they should establish contact with the Sparklers and convince them to help their people move to the void…before their system is destroyed by the galaxy which is about to attack them.

At first, because of Freddie appearing to be made of energy, they thought it is the home of the Sparklers, but then they saw souls of a variety of species travelling to and fro on a regular basis. That they either danced in the void or else just disappeared puzzled them, (they cannot sense the Sparkler World, just as we cannot from the outside), so they decided to risk making contact. When told that we come from the distant future, they were pleased and announced that we have proven their theories about space and matter to be true. When asked, they informed us that they have theorised that as time goes by, in large segments, matter grows more real as it acquires more substance, because of energy turning into matter (just in case anyone is wondering, our scientists confirmed that there is no truth to such a theory, that they know of).

What are some of the peculiarities that make them different? They do not show interest in learning about us or the future, only babbling from morning till night about themselves, their beliefs, their history and so on. We soon realised that if they find themselves forced to listen to us (we don’t understand why or what compels them), they lose interest almost immediately and their minds drift away.

4697

They do not have nations or tribes, only families, which can extend into the hundreds of millions. Yet, none are considered mother or father, or sister or brother. Only the fact that they are family is what matters. At first we thought that they segregate themselves by pattern of colours (I was the clever one who invented that theory and I only thought of it because of the way our own species does so), and we came up with a number of other theories…which the scientists soon forced us to abandon by providing us with a fact: Those who are family seem to share certain genetic markers - and it is true for each and every family. I think I am going to have to ask a direct question, once they are more at ease with us.

Robbie has never made this concession for any other species, apart from short term concessions, lasting only until the Unation can deal with the problem. The Hayimayno, as we had guessed, are low gravity creatures and our normal gravity could have harmed them and, if not, our empathy made their imagined suffering feel like we are guilty of torturing them. Freddie and Robbie can’t just adjust the gravity locally for them, as they have done for others, for they need to be free to soar about in our skies and sometimes they stray from the taverna to examine other parts of Freddie, so we are using mental gifts to reduce the gravity for each of our visitors. It is lucky that there are many of us to take a turn, for it is a strain and ten minutes wears us out. Of course we have not let them know what we are doing for them as we do not want them to feel beholden to us for such a trite reason - they are bound to feel indebted because of the Sparklers saving them and that is more than enough for us to have to bear.

It has taken us another full day to realise another strangeness of theirs; none of them have names. When we told them our names and we sensed their puzzled emoting, we thought they found our names strange. Okay, scrap what I just wrote, we found out that they do have names, just as we already have names…from them. To them, the aura of each person, of every species, is their name. They identify with the colours of the faint glow of our aura. I wonder what they think of my name, but I don’t doubt that they think Goldi has a beautiful name.

Okay, they are aliens so I must expect them to be different from us in ways we think peculiar, but this is downright crazy! We mentioned that we will be leaving the intruder sun behind when we move their solar system, thinking it will please them, and they became very disturbed and as soon as they had settled enough to communicate, they asked us not to move their solar system. They know they are about to die, but they insist they want to stay and die. Before we can even discuss the ethics of any decision we take, we must first learn about their children; how do they have them and what about their deaths, are they comfortable with them also dying. Also, what was that story they told us about wanting to ask the Sparklers to save them…oh! They don’t want the Sparklers to save their bodies, just their souls!

If we have understood them, I would suggest that any similarities to frogs eggs is only superficial. They have surfaces they have flattened on their hollowed out planets which permanently face their dim sun and when it is time (or the right ‘season’?) they each pass over the flat area, spraying either the egg sacs or the gelatinous matter which fertilises the eggs (it serves two…three purposes; it fertilises the eggs and thereafter feeds them and protects them from the slight radiation of their sun).

Here is the corker! This only happens once every four to six hundred of our years! It takes the embryo about seventeen years to develop and on the eighteenth year they eat their way out of their sac and the gelatinous food surrounding them, taking a day or two to cleanse themselves and then they fly from the birthing ground, already fully developed adults. During the seventeen years, the ‘parents’ spend a lot of time each day conversing and teaching the young ones, thus, when they spread out, they are already prepared to be useful members of their community. Over the next three to five hundred years, the older generation die.

We do not sense any sentimentalism about any part of what I have just described, they accept all of it as being natural. They confirmed that they do not wish to have children, just as they do not wish to die. It is why they want the Sparklers to ‘save’ them and help them become as the Sparklers. They have offered to spend their lives helping other species. I think Robbie was the first to interpret what they are offering in the way they meant it. They think that the Sparklers are right in wanting to ‘save’ all species and want to become their partners.

It has been a very long time since any of us have sensed the Sparklers this upset. Finally, perhaps because they sensed our empathy was making us become a part of their misery, they suddenly all disappeared - even from the void, all travelling to and staying within their World.

Robbie, his face pale and strained, told us, “I must go to them and help them…”

Cherine was on his lap, so she twisted and looked up at his face. “Not you Robert, let our friend of aliens handle it for us.”

4698

I have come to know quite a large number of Thinkers and non-Thinkers (when they take on a body, thus temporarily becoming ‘Thinkers’), but then, each of us have also and we all love our Sol very much. I could not see why Cherine felt I could be of more help than Robbie, but then I had an idea and grinned.

“Cherine, not the friend of aliens, but the one alien who is an alien to all and yet belongs to and is a part of every species- I’m talking of Goldi. Let her go to them and help them understand how much they will be hurting us if they allow the Hayimayno to make them feel guilty all over again.”

As Robbie put Cherine on her feet, he chuckled and taking the hand of Goldi, they both disappeared. Did he really think we would all meekly wait for them at the taverna, when we could go to Athens, share from-with them, while we stuff ourselves with eclairs and chocolates?

I guess we were expecting Robbie to go to the fields where we usually meet with the Sparklers and other species, but we found them sitting at a table with extra chairs as they waited for Solomon and some Thinkers to join them. We grinned when we saw the waiters coming out with our eclairs and so on, Robbie had already ordered for us.

Solomon and two Thinkers joined Robbie, while another two Thinkers joined us. Lucy set out two plates with some eclairs and a milk-fey and our guests (or should I say we were their guests, since we were in their World?) thanked her and nibbled at their confectionery, while joining us as we listened to those at the table of Robbie and Goldi.

Robbie asked, “You were troubled by the wishes of the Hayimayno?”

Solomon gravely nodded. “It is as you presumed Robert. We felt that perhaps we should re-examine our decisions to stop saving everyone.”

The eyes of Robert and Goldi were not the only ones to open wide with stunned disbelief. None of us had even considered the possibility of such a change. Cherine urgently entered my mind, but I showed her that I have no idea of how we should act. Do we wait for them to first make their decision (if we respect them, we must). Nobody (of our family) said anything and I think we were all wishing Sol was with us so that she can give us a clue on how we should react to the situation.

All four Thinkers and Solomon seemed to feel comfortable and concentrated on eating and drinking, while we just sat there without doing anything, hoping that one other of us will think of an answer that will not also hurt or insult our best friends, the Sparklers.

The five of them seemed to have timed it, for they finished at the same time and coming to their feet, Solomon told us, “Perhaps you need Sol to be with you at this time?” and he, and the Thinkers, disappeared, Sol left behind in their place.

She pulled a face as she told us, “This is not fair, they should have stayed!”

Gently, Robbie asked her, “They want you to tell us something that they were not comfortable telling us themselves?”

“Yes.”

“What is it, my love?”

“That this sort of opportunity occurs far too rarely and the Sparklers have not laughed this much for a long time. They still cannot believe you fell for their joke.”

“Joke? They tricked us? Damn it girl, you are right, they should have stayed - we cannot very well throw pillows at you, since you were not to blame for them tricking us.”

“Uh, Robert, in a way I was, the imps and I, we gave Solomon the idea.”

The two imps screamed with laughter and instantly jumped so as to avoid the pillows they thought we would be throwing at them. This may not be a real Kolonaki, but to us it feels like it is and we are ladies, we would not do something so childish in public. We’ll get them back at home.

Luigi shook his head. “As you sow, so shall you reap. You have corrupted the Sparklers and I foresee that life will be changing again for all of us. All these hours of worry…all for nothing!”

4699

Jade jumped to be at his side and as he looked at her, she told him, “Not for nothing Luigi, is not the ability to laugh just as important as the ability to paint?” He nodded in agreement and she gently squeezed his hand. “Talking about art, why haven’t you written anything recently? Is it because you are not bored?”

He laughed. “Bored! I doubt even one soul is bored. Too many ideas, too many images of too great a splendour are constantly flashing through my mind and I cannot hold on to one of them long enough for them to take form.”

Jade nodded and then grinned. “I have over fifty wives and a husband to help soothe my overexcited imagination, perhaps you too should find yourself a wife?”

“There are too many beautiful women with lovely souls for me to get to know one well enough to become tempted.”

Suddenly Jade was upset with him. “That was not worthy of you, Luigi. Your fear of commitment is damaging you, for there is so much more for you to discover in the person you allow yourself to love - plus you are depriving some woman of your companionship, which is unfair to her. I also want to love a child of yours - he or she will be very precious to all of us.”

A comment if I may? When too many miracles happen in too rapid an order, they stop being miracles (good or bad) and shred our personalities, for we are not built to experience them so often - especially not when they are so humongous. This joke of the Sparklers, plus the words of Jade, in an odd way, they helped our feet find the earth again, for us to stand on solid ground once more. Arthur, you are allowing us - especially me - far too much latitude and far too often-easily. Our universe should not be this pliable to our wishes.

4700

We still had a myriad questions, which is why, I suppose, he refuses to answer our attempts to speak with him. Maybe he has moved on…no, he is still writing, it cannot be the Arthur of our time, not yet. Arthur, we will respect your wishes, but you will also forever remain a pain in our hearts if you do not make it possible for us to find and bring you to us. Damn it!
