I welcome this time of year with love and a soft cardigan around my shoulders. The vegetables in the garden are getting sparser. However we have plenty of volunteer tomatoes, garlic and limes still going strong. The herbs are lush and the nasturtiums are grateful for the cooler weather.
Today I picked a couple of limes for hot tea and a few tabascos to add to relishes I’ll be canning this week.
I took these cooler, slower days to reorganize and deep clean my home.
Cabinets were scrubbed with a paste made from baking soda and Dawn…
Every single dish was rewashed…
The bar cart got replenished…
I need to get more of my favorite Empress Gin and dust all the bottles.
Everything was laundered and the house felt so fresh with the cooler air crawling through the windows.
I picked a few greens from my garden as well as baby tomatoes that grow in all colors in my garden and made a salad for my son and I.
A dash of sea salt, coarse freshly grounded pepper, a splash of balsamic vinegar and the tiniest drizzle of extra virgin olive oil was enough to make the colorful flavors of such a simple salad dance in our mouths.
Such a simple day. But getting so much done made it worthy of a celebratory happy dance!
How are you welcoming the cooler weather to your home?
May your home be filled with warmth, your pantry full and may you always have good health!
