“Crypto Space Commander (CSC) is a sandbox space MMO that operates in a completely real-time, player-controlled economy. Players can travel to different star systems, mine stellar bodies for resources, craft items and ships to sell, battle pirates and other players while commanding their very own starship! Built in Unity3D. CSC utilizes the Ethereum blockchain to secure game assets, enforce P2P contract actions, and run the game economy.” [Excerpt from CSC website] Sounds awesome right? Good news, alpha testing starts within a few weeks.
But hold on, there are certain requirements to participate in CSC alpha testing. Most importantly you will need a ship. Currently “First Fleet” ships are available for purchase directly from the developers at https://www.csc-game.com/sale . Alternatively you could try browsing the shelves at Opensea.IO, right now there are still vouchers available for less than official sticker price, like a Prometheus Voucher for 0.62Eth. That is about 10% less than they cost from the CSC store, though as of last week, they are no longer offered for sale. Check it out here: https://opensea.io/assets/0xcc9a66acf8574141b0e025202dd57649765a4be7/3368?r=577. If those prices are too high for your budget, just wait until next week when the second line of pre-sale ships become available. They will not have all the perks of “First Fleet” but they will get you into the game, even on a tight budget.
Once you have a ship in you MetaMask wallet you are nearly there. MetaMask lets you switch between the different Ethereum networks, look for the little triangle in the upper corner. CSC alpha will take place on one of the Ethereum test-nets. Which of the test-nets? Well that is not public knowledge yet, when that information is made available I may make another post a explaining how to load up your wallet with some test-net Ether. Test Ether is free, perfect for playing around and testing dapps.
Participating in the alpha will definitely bring some benefits. Firstly, it will be fun. Personally I love the space genre and have always enjoyed games like this. Secondly, you will gain insider knowledge into the mechanics of the game, giving you an advantage once the game opens up for the masses. For example: the best mining locations, combat techniques, piloting experience using different ships, trade routes, etc. Also it would not hurt to meet a few other players and possibly get in with a guild. Lastly, there is a high possibility that players will get to keep (on main-net) a portion of the ore they mine during the alpha test phase.
Hope to see you there.
As always, Stay Classy Everyone!
