Based on local folklore, the Gembirowati site is the residence of Jogoburo who has a brother named Bambang Sumantri. Jogoburo has a physical condition resembling a giant while Bambang Sumantri has a physical condition as a knight. Because Jogoburo was jealous of his brother's physical condition, a war broke out in that place.
Another story is that Dewi Citrowati married her older sister because they had been separated since childhood. His older brother, Sri Dipo Kusumo, was a hermit who was fascinated when he saw the beauty of Dewi Citrowati. Their one-blood marriage relationship was discovered by their parents, so they were exiled in the southern coast of Java Island. The daughter who was abandoned by her father then founded a guesthouse in Gembirowati. The child of the marriage after growing up built a palace and became the ruler of Boko Hill.
