How Do You Define 'Self'?
I think the self is you. it's what's referred to after you use the personal pronoun, "I." The self is what has mental states like sensation, though, belief, emotion, desire, etc. The self-has the faculty of volition. It's what acts, wills, etc.
Folks use terms like 'my self and 'your self' (with and without spaces)as if a self-was one thing 'you' own instead of being 'you'. Another factor to ponder is what 'self' is formed of if it has all the powers ascribed to it by philocristos.
The Soul = Self?
That is true. However, i feel it's simply a manner of speaking. i feel the soul is equivalent to the self, and that I suppose that is how it's primarily employed in the Bible, too, however each I and also the Bible still say things like, "his soul" or "my soul" as if it were something someone had instead of being the person him/herself.
I think the soul/self is an immaterial entity. It is not fabricated from something physical. I suppose if I were to present a name to the substance it's made of; I would just call it "soul."
The properties I'd assign to it would be constant properties I might ascribe to a mind, though I do not suppose being conscious is important to be a self or soul. A soul/self may be unconscious. Perhaps a far better way to assign properties to it is to mention it has the capability of having mental states or something like that.
Difference Between Physical Properties And Self
What I simply gave you was my best try at explaining what a soul is. Since I equate the soul with the self, that is the reason I feel there's a soul.
The mere indisputable fact that anybody exists implies that souls exist as a result of souls are persons. I do know at least that I exist, and I am fairly assured that everyone else will, too.
On the one hand, I do not suppose our physicality is important to our existence, however on the opposite hand; we've such a special reference to our physical bodies, I am reluctant to say it's simply something we've either.
I am willing to identify certain physical components we have, though. for instance, we have fingers. However, we don't seem to be the same thing as our fingers. They're components of us, and if they were removed, we would not be any less ourselves as a result of it.
