Everyone has the right to privacy and deciding how to live their own lives and who to let in (as long as this all doesn’t Directly hurt others), so I think you are right in protecting your way of life and standing up for yourself and your Children and raising them in accordance with your life-path and your intuition and not what some parts of the society say.
