May 28-is a good historical date.
On this day in 1905, a decisive naval battle took place in the Russo-Japanese War of 1904-1905, known as the ‘Battle of Tsushima’.
The battle ended with the defeat of the united fleet of the Russian Empire by the fleet of the Yamato Empire. In this battle, two-thirds of the Russian squadron was defeated and almost 90 percent of the personnel were lost.
At that time, Russia did not know such a defeat of its naval personnel, it lost the personnel of the fleet.
In Russia, this battle was called the final catastrophe of the Russian Empire, and the defeat in this battle accelerated the collapse of the Russian Empire and its monarchical system.
Historians and military experts have repeatedly analyzed the results of the Battle of Tsushima and the reasons for the defeat of the Russian fleet.
Their main conclusions are as follows:
- Russian ships could not resist the Japanese, because they were obsolete; all Japanese ships already had radio communications, and the Russians used the old signal communication;
- the movement of a large squadron, consisting of old ships, was accompanied by breakdowns and frequent refueling with coal;
- incompetence of the command and Russian corruption, due to which they saved on armor and equipment of ships;
- very little money was allocated for naval training;
- Japanese ships were painted gray, which gave them camouflage. While the Russians went with brightly painted ships (black stern and orange pipes);
- Russian shells at long distances had a weak destructive effect due to the small amount of explosives;
- outdated strategy of the wake column, for which the Japanese are well prepared.
As a result of the Battle of Tsushima, Russia lost not just ships, but a strategic arsenal. This automatically transferred Russia from the rank of a great power to the category of states of the second or even third class.
Some analogies can be drawn between the centuries-old events of the current Russian-Ukrainian war.
122 years ago, Russia flaunted its power to the countries of the world, as well as misleading its own people. Even today, after a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, it became clear that all the power of the Russian army is a bubble.
The reasons for the defeat of the Russians in the battles in Ukraine are the same as during the Battle of Tsushima: corruption in the country and the army, outdated equipment and strategy, incompetence of commanders.
However, there is one difference - it is the loss of humanity of soldiers and officer honor of commanders.
I am sure that the consequences for Russia in this war will also be similar - the collapse of the modern Russian empire, its transformation into a secondary country - a beggar, isolated from the developed world community.
