Masks work because they reduce the viral load that is floating around in the air. Alot of people don't talk about that. To get sick you need to pass a critical mass of viruses that you are exposed to.. it's a numbers game.
Of course masks don't give you a 100% protection but any reduction in the spread of the virus goes a long way.
There is a reason why the countries that took it seriously at the beginning of the pandemic are doing much better (in deaths per capita) than the ones that displayed nothing more than hubris (like the US, the UK, Brazil...to name a few).
You know what works better? Doing what I do and staying home all day long with zero interaction of other people :D.
Well duh :) you are correct. In theory we could end this circus by having everyone in the world isolated for a few weeks. But then we would need something else to fight over.
