Friends, does anyone remember how it snowed in my region from May 10 to May 13 and I fed the birds again so they would not die of hunger and cold? There Are New Guests On My Tree (6 pics)
So the big surprise for me was the arrival of a woodpecker. For some reason, it seems to me that it was a girl. But I could be wrong. ratel@ratel, what can you say about this?
He (she) first arrived on May 11, looked around, and flew away. It was a reconnaissance, an assessment of the situation. On May 12, the bird flew back and actively ate seeds from the feeder for about 5 minutes. It was very funny to watch. Firstly, all the small birds immediately flew away from the feeder because they were scared, but secondly, the woodpecker himself behaved very cautiously initially.
It felt like he understood that I was looking at him from the window and he was hiding behind a tree, periodically peeking out from behind it and quickly thrusting his beak into the feeder.

But I was already prepared for this behavior of the woodpecker. I know that he likes to spin around the trunk of a tree and it is necessary to catch the moment when he is in plain sight.

Gradually, the woodpecker gained courage and quite calmly began to take seeds from the feeder, which is already living out its life. And the snow kept falling and falling. The big white spots in the photo are the falling snow.

When the jays came to the feeder, they usually ate the seeds unpeeled, but sometimes they peeled large seeds.
I did not see exactly how the woodpecker ate the seeds. He took a seed in his beak and flew away with it, then returned for a new seed and flew away again. And so he did for quite a long time.

That day, a hawk flew to the tree with a feeder. But he wasn't going to eat sunflower seeds. He tried to grab the little bird, but it was saved by the branches of a tree in which the hawk got entangled. I didn't have time to take a camera to capture this moment.
