From my archives I bring to you this photo taken from when things were still normal. I made the "mentions" on the #monomad challenge (originated by @brumest, hosted by
@monochromes) sometime ago which I felt really happy about. Here's my entry for today's challenge, I hope I'm lucky!
The photo is of a tricycle transportation vehicle which is called a "keke napep" where I'm from (Nigeria). It's really common and is one of the easiest ways to get from one place to another in terms of public transportation. It usually takes up to 3 passengers at the back seat and is a cheap means of transportation.
Photo of a "Keke napep" zooming off on the road.
Before the Covid-19 pandemic came to be, these keke drivers spend most of their day driving routes, picking fares and dropping them at their destinations in order to make a living. Most have to work in order to make enough money to eat for the day, talk less of settling bills. Life is not an easy hustle sadly, and whilst some have it easy some don't, unfortunately.
Now, the Covid-19 pandemic is here and no one knows how long it's going to be here for. Its been a month of lockdown for my country and most can already feel the effects, its getting tough out there. The lockdown took a mighty blow to the public transportation system, which of course, affects these keke drivers too. You can't make any money if everyone is at home and not going anywhere. Plus in some areas there are strict restrictions which do not allow movement of any sort. Surviving must be hard for these guys :(.
Why am I writing about this?
Well, I came across the photo and it made me remember all those who are badly affected by the situation of things right now. I can't help but empathise and wish there's something I could do to assist as many people as I could.
In the absence of any means of possible assistance from my end at the moment, I can only do one thing... Which is to work hard so I get to the position where I can help others in need.
