! [TEXT IN ENGLISH] Greetings to all the moms and dads of this community. Today I want to tell you about my experience with a possible diagnosis of autism in my 4 year old girl.
Miranda was born at term on October 19, 2018 weighing only 2.700kg and measuring 49cm, a little underweight, but quite long haha. My whole pregnancy was controlled, I had a pretty healthy and balanced diet, although I suffered from hyperemesis gravidarum during the first three months of gestation, I lost a lot of weight and had a pretty bad time.

! [TEXT IN ENGLISH] Time went by and she was developing perfectly, meeting all the expected milestones for her age. Every month we went to her pediatrician and everything was perfect; this started to change in our consultation #12, that is, Miranda was already 1 year old, the doctor asked me if she was starting to say some words, because the expected for this stage is that they say at least 5 words, my daughter only said "water", "mama" and "teta", this alarmed the pediatrician a little, she gave me indications to stimulate the language and that we should come back to control in 6 months.
At home we did all those exercises, I still didn't see much improvement, but well "each child has his time, I thought to myself", we went back to the office, Miranda was 18 months old, the expected language for that age was at least 40 words, the child was still far below the minimum. So the doctor recommends speech therapies and if possible, that the child attends a nursery where she can be with children contemporary with her, so she would see the need to "loosen her tongue", she also refers us to a child neurologist, to evaluate her, at this point the situation began to worry me, but that is how it was done. We began to look for a speech therapist, we made an appointment with the best child neurologist in Valencia and enrolled the child in a nursery a few blocks from home.
! [TEXT IN ENGLISH] The date of the appointment with the neurologist arrives, she begins to evaluate Miranda, the first thing she does is to try to make eye contact with the girl, which she does; she tries to ask her name, but she does not know how to answer, she asks her mommy's and daddy's name, to which she answers pointing to where we were, she measures her, weighs her and finishes with her examination, she tells us that, in her opinion, the girl was not autistic and that she needed speech therapy to develop this aspect, she agrees with the pediatrician in the enrollment in the nursery. Uff a relief for us.
To our bad luck, the child only lasted four days in the nursery because in March they declared the world pandemic for Covid19 and we were all in quarantine, the teachers sent tasks for the child to paint or play with paints, but what I needed was for Miranda to have contact with other children and that was not possible.
Regarding the speech therapist, I was recommended to a psychopedagogue a few blocks from home, who was the one who basically treated all the children in the urbanization, she gave us sessions once a week, the girl was very loving and was very attentive with Miranda, they got along well.
When the situation with covid started to improve a little bit, the nursery decided to open its doors again, but they increased the monthly fee a lot, it was impossible for us to pay for the therapy and the nursery. We had to decide, so we stayed with the therapist.
Soon after, we decided to leave Venezuela, so Miranda had very little time with the therapies.
In December 2021 we arrived in Argentina, I immediately started looking for a nursery or kindergarten as it is known here, I found one a few blocks away from where we were living, beautiful. I enroll her and everything is perfect, classes start in February. Time went by and Miranda's language began to become richer, integrating songs, games, she could already say her name, and I felt extremely relieved, although she was still below expectations. Her classmates had a much more developed language and I know it is wrong to compare one child with another, I understood it then and I understand it today, but it was impossible not to.

! [TEXT IN ENGLISH] Our situation in the country began to improve, my husband already had a stable and registered job, so we had the right to prepaid medicine, which is a kind of medical insurance, to call it somehow; One day, in June 2022, when Miranda had flu, I made an appointment to take her to the pediatric control, the doctor attended us and when she saw that the reason for the consultation was flu, that woman panicked because it could be covid, she did not even want to auscultate the girl and she was practically kicking us out of the office, Miranda wanted to be checked and as the doctor did not want the girl had a big tantrum, to which this woman told me "that girl is autistic", she has all the signs: lack of language, excessive tantrums, still wearing a diaper, and not making eye contact. She gives me the medical order referring me to a neurologist and ends up taking us out of the office. Friends, I had to finish putting the child's shoes on in the hallway of the clinic. I left the clinic destroyed because once again I was faced with a diagnosis that I had already discarded some time ago.
I took a cab as best I could, because I could not stop crying, we arrived home and I told my mom and my husband about the situation. They were able to calm me down so that I could explain the situation, my husband said that we should make an appointment with the neurologist, who is ultimately the specialist. A couple of weeks later, we go to the neurologist, he checks her out, interviews us and his diagnosis is: I don't know, it's not clear to me, my God !!!!. He indicates that he must do tests to determine if she is autistic or not, what he is clear about is that the girl has a language delay and must do therapy, here it is called "fonoaudiology".
The tests were ADI-R and ADOS-2, which are really neuropsychological evaluation tools used to detect ASD. Thank God this test was negative, my child is not autistic, but she does have language delay, the neurologist says that in such young children the diagnosis is "written in pencil" it can change at any time, so it is not 100% ruled out (although something tells me not to worry).
It is an exhausting process, we have done everything the neurologist has indicated, since August 2022 we are attending speech therapy, twice a week, we were lucky to meet Eugenia, a very professional and patient woman more with me than with Miranda haha. The girl attends kindergarten and has many friends, she enjoys painting with paints, colors, dancing and singing, her language has been enriched a lot as well as her comprehension, she speaks with an argentinian accent, she says "look, go, come" haha my mom suffers, I enjoy it. She is "venezoargentina".
