North Korean hackers targeted at least three South Korean cryptocurrency exchanges, according to cybersecurity firm FireEye.
Hackers used spear phishing techniques and dispersed malware to obtain virtual cash.
The move could be an attempt to avoid sanctions and fund Kim Jong Un's regime.
