Hello, dear Hive family! 👋 Today I want to share the step-by-step process of this drawing: a cat in a fancy suit with a serious expression. I created it using a red colored pencil because I love the contrast it creates on white paper and the vibe it conveys.
Hola querida familia de Hive 👋Hoy quiero compartirles el paso a paso de este dibujo, un gato con traje elegante y mirada seria. Lo hice con lápiz de color rojo porque me gusta el contraste que da en papel blanco y la vibra que transmite.

• Letter-sized white paper
• Red colored pencil
• Kneadable eraser (just in case)
• Patience and good coffee ☕
Here is the step-by-step process, in case you want to try it at home:
Step 1: Base structure and silhouette
I started with very simple shapes. An oval for the cat's head, along with two triangular ears. I created a "stickman-style" sketch but added volume: rectangles for the torso, and lines for the arms and legs. At this stage, I was just marking out the proportions.

Paso 1: Estructura base y silueta
Comencé con formas muy simples. Un óvalo para la cabeza de gato con las dos orejas triangulares. Para el cuerpo hice un boceto tipo "stickman" pero con volumen: rectángulos para el torso, líneas para los brazos y piernas. Aquí solo marqué proporciones. La idea era definir la pose: de pie, elegante, con un gabán largo.
Step 2: Defining the outfit
I began constructing the clothing over the base structure. I sketched the coat lapels draping down the sides and marked the shirt collar. Then, I created the double-breasted vest, complete with its signature four buttons and pockets. I added the tie and a pocket square for that finishing touch. I also defined the shape of the trousers and shoes.
Paso 2: Definiendo el traje
Sobre la estructura base, empecé a construir la ropa. Dibujé las solapas del gabán cayendo por los lados y marqué el cuello de la camisa. Luego hice el chaleco cruzado con sus 4 botones característicos y los bolsillos. Agregué la corbata y el pañuelo en el bolsillo para darle ese toque. También definí la forma de los pantalones y zapatos.
Step 3: Initial shading
Using the same red pencil but applying more pressure, I reinforced the inner part of the overcoat. This helps separate the overcoat from the vest and adds depth. I also darkened the area of the shirt and tie to create contrast. At this point, the character is already starting to take on a real presence.
Paso 3: Primer sombreado
Con el mismo lápiz rojo pero aplicando más presión, reforcé el interior del gabán. Esto ayuda a separar el gabán del chaleco y da profundidad. También oscurecí la zona de la camisa y la corbata para crear contraste. En este punto el personaje ya empieza a tener presencia.
Step 4: The feline face
I gave it personality with large, expressive eyes, filling them in while leaving a highlight. I added furrowed brows for that "boss" look. Then came the small nose, the muzzle, and the long whiskers.

Le di personalidad con ojos grandes y expresivos, rellenándolos pero dejando un brillo. Agregué cejas fruncidas para esa mirada de "jefe". Luego la nariz pequeña, el hocico y los bigotes largos.
Step 5: Final details and volume
To finish, I reinforced all the outlines of the suit, the overcoat, and the shoes. I added shading to create volume. I also darkened the inside of the overcoat and added shadows beneath the suit lapels. The trouser creases and details on the shoes complete the drawing.
Paso 5: Detalles finales y volumen
Para terminar, reforcé todos los contornos del traje, el gabán y los zapatos. Añadí sombreado para darle volumen. También oscurecí más el interior del gabán y puse sombras debajo de las solapas del traje. Los dobleces del pantalón y detalles en los zapatos cierran el dibujo.
And this was the final result. It looks serious, yet stylish.
