In recent years, with the continuous breakthrough of artificial intelligence technology research, capital has shown a hot trend, representative artificial intelligence technologies such as machine learning, natural language processing, and speech recognition have gradually matured, forming increasingly sophisticated and efficient industries in the sub-sectors. solution.
For the difference in the actual effect of artificial intelligence technology on individual industries and the attitude of enterprises towards intelligent technology, the heart of the machine has conducted in-depth research on the application trends of intelligent technologies and the adaptability of artificial intelligence strategies in various industries and companies.
Based on this survey, the heart of the machine released the “Adaptability Report of Artificial Intelligence of Global Top 500 Listed Companies”. The report covers a total of 640 companies from 23 industries in the Fortune Global 500 list from 2013 to 2017. The heart of the machine consulted more than 100,000 news bulletins and more than 3,000 company annual reports and thousands of trend reports, thus screening 145 representative listed companies from 17 different industries as the research object of this trend report. The 145 listed companies have confirmed that they are explicitly referring to the implementation of artificial intelligence strategies in their official channels. In the process of writing the report, we found the following seven trends.
In the 2013-2016, the number of artificial intelligence research papers published by China, the United States, Canada, Japan, the United Kingdom, Germany, Australia, and other countries increased rapidly. Among them, the artificial intelligence research papers in China and the United States have the fastest growth rate and have been leading for four consecutive years.
Figure 3.2 shows that the global artificial intelligence research paper has grown from less than 100 articles in 2013 to more than 1,400 articles in 2016. In 2014, China published nearly 150 research papers on artificial intelligence, with the largest proportion of production in that year and continued to occupy the gimmick.
Capital support is critical to the development of the industry. In the past few years, artificial intelligence has become a hot area of global venture capital and has prompted the birth of a large number of artificial intelligence start-ups. The rapid development of intelligent technology has also led to the gradual abandonment of regionalization and the shift to global investment.
Figure 3.3 shows that the global investment in artificial intelligence increased from approximately $1 billion in 2013 to approximately $14 billion in 2017. The number of artificial intelligence global venture capital events increased from more than 250 in 2013 to more than 1,200 in 2017.
In recent years, many countries around the world have issued official human intelligence white papers and strategies at the government level to prioritize the development of artificial intelligence. These white papers and strategies are mostly to strengthen cooperation, establish research institutes, fund research and encourage entrepreneurship.
The ancients "have made their words first, and then from it", the strategy is often generated after the company has paved the way. In other words, we can speculate on the industry and the company's focus on the artificial intelligence strategy through the target company's statistics on the annual news releases of artificial intelligence. As can be seen from Figure 4.1, the amount of artificial intelligence related news releases has been increasing year by year. As of 2017, we can speculate that the artificial intelligence strategy has gradually become the focus of the company's implementation strategy.
The average annual growth rate of 2013-2017 artificial intelligence topic news is 144.5%.
The growth rates in 2015 and 2016 were 159.5% and 161.5%, respectively.
The growth rate of 2017 artificial intelligence news release has slowed down, and the annual growth rate has changed to -22.0%.
The 2017 AI topic news release accounted for nearly 60.0% of the total news release in the past five years.
The heart of the machine observed that the target companies are mostly distributed in the Fortune Global 500 companies, such as finance, technology, and automobiles. However, in terms of adoption rate, corporate services, hotel catering & entertainment, and technology industries are relatively dominant. The average industry conversion rate of the 17 industries in which the target company is located is 22.7%.
Figure 4.2 shows the adoption status of the target companies in the 23 industries in which the Fortune 500 is located. Figure 4.3 shows the adoption rate of the Fortune 500 AI strategy in different industries; Figure 4.4 is based on the McKinsey application of artificial intelligence applications. Hotspot maps show how applications are implemented in different industries. As can be seen from the figure:
The financial, technology and automotive industries accounted for 37.2%, 17.2%, and 11.0% of the target companies, respectively.
Industries such as clothing, food and beverage & tobacco, daily necessities, media, trade, and waste management have not found companies that use artificial intelligence.
The adoption rate of artificial intelligence in enterprise services, hotel catering & entertainment, and technology industries was relatively advanced, with 100.0%, 60.0%, and 58.1%, respectively.
Automation & Optimization, User Interaction is the hottest application area of artificial intelligence strategy, accounting for 25.1% and 23.1% respectively.
When to adopt the artificial intelligence strategy is a problem that all companies must think about. The heart of the machine builds the time node graph of the target company adopting the artificial intelligence strategy based on the official announcement of the target company. From Figure 4.5, we can get the following conclusions.
The company's artificial intelligence strategy for 2011-2017 has an average annual growth rate of 91.9%.
In 2011-2013, there were 8 companies using artificial intelligence strategy, accounting for only 5.5% of the total number of target companies.
The number of target companies in 2014-2017 has increased significantly, with an average annual growth rate of 125.3%.
There were 126 trend reports in 2015-2017. The target company adopted the artificial intelligence strategy, accounting for 86.9% of the total number of target companies.
In 2016, the newly adopted artificial intelligence strategy company accounted for 37.2% of the total number of artificial intelligence used in 2011-2017 and reached a peak in the new amount.
In 2017, 49 new artificial intelligence strategy companies were added, and the number of new ones has dropped compared with the previous year.
When a company adopts an artificial intelligence strategy, the heart of the machine hopes to analyze the direction of the company's strategy. Based on the classification of McKinsey's strategic direction for artificial intelligence, we divided the strategic action decisions of 145 companies within the target range and constructed the heat map to obtain the following results.
Most of the action decisions focused on product development, smart strategy investment, and user experience, accounting for 14.6%, 14.4%, and 12.6%, respectively.
Supply chain distribution has received less attention, accounting for 3.6%.
The financial and technology industries are biased towards adopting more comprehensive action decisions.
Corporate services and the transportation industry tend to adopt simpler action decisions.
Further evaluation and conclusion
The survey conducted quantitative assessment and expert analysis on the business performance of 145 target listed companies after implementing the artificial intelligence strategy, and classified the target companies according to the performance of the company's business and operations after adopting the artificial intelligence strategy:
Artificial Intelligence Highly Adaptable Company: This category includes companies that implement business intelligence growth after implementing an artificial intelligence strategy.
Artificial Intelligence Low Adaptability Company: This category includes companies that have experienced business lags after implementing an artificial intelligence strategy.
Artificial intelligence is more complex companies: This category includes companies that are difficult to conduct business assessments with a single data metric.
Trend Reporting introduces two selected case studies in each category to help practitioners and managers better understand the business impact of AI strategies. These selected cases include BP, Amazon, General Electric, IBM, SAIC, and Wells Fargo, a total of six examples of artificial intelligence strategies from well-known companies in different fields.
The trend report not only hopes to present to the artificial intelligence practitioners and managers how the world's leading companies implement and implement the artificial intelligence strategy but also summarizes the adaptive trends of each company after the implementation of official data and expert analysis, hoping to help practitioners and Manager's AI vision construction.
