The specialist in securing the portfolios of bitcoins prepares its entry into the business market.

Ledger changes his head before changing the scale. Pascal Gauthier, formerly of Criteo, becomes general manager of the specialist in securing and managing portfolios of cryptomonas, the best known of which is the bitcoin.

He has been a non-executive member of the Board of Directors since 2015. After his debut at Kelkoo in the 2000s and especially a long passage at Criteo, a French nugget for online advertising, Pascal Gauthier wanted to "do something other than advertisement ".

Change dimension :

As CEO, he will have the mission, together with CEO Eric Larchevêque, to develop the young shoot that will attack the corporate market. "Pascal has a solid experience in helping start-ups to change dimensions," said Eric Larchevêque in a statement.

"Financial institutions, such as hedge funds or family offices, are increasingly interested in the market. When purchasing cryptomonials, the question arises of the management of this asset, "explains Pascal Gauthier before adding," as long as security is not brought to the market, it is not possible for them to 'invest. "

Strong market demand :

The future keys of Ledger could, for example, allow the management of several signatures. They could also allow at least three people to confirm a transaction within 48 hours, to prevent an isolated individual from siphoning the funds. These solutions, "developed following a strong market demand", should be marketed in 2018.

The cryptomonies have attracted the attention of the general public after the escapades of some actors, but also by the multiplication of records - the bitcoin has exceeded 4,000 dollars. The capitalization of the cryptomonas amounts to 137.8 billion dollars according to the site Coinmarketcap.com. Start-ups raise millions of dollars in seconds with ICOs. The craze for cryptomonas is such that some, like the boss of JPMorgan, warn against a bubble.

Agnostic :

This does not prevent most financial institutions from paying close attention, especially to the Blockchains. This is the technology that validates, secures transactions and registers them in a distributed registry. Banks, insurers and others see the possibility of reducing their costs while shortening the duration of operations.

It is in this segment that is most valuable. In order to be sure to capture a part of it, Ledger chooses neutrality: "We are agnostic, our portfolios currently allowing us to treat dozens of cryptomonnaies," argues Pascal Gauthier.

This positioning as well as its unique technology in the world, an operating system that can be integrated with any secure hardware, explain the success of the start-up. Ledger has already sold 300,000 copies of its key, the flagship of which is Ledger Nano S. Sales cover 165 countries.
