Hello Everyone!
I'm back with my Splinterlands post, and today I wanna share my first battle experience against the first Splinterlands generative NFT character card, RUNI. To be honest, I have been planning to publish this article since 3 days when I was still in the Gold league, but because of busyness I can only finish now.
I think this battle is a little special because it's my show against Runi. My previous shadow Runi was very strong and hard to beat. After doing this battle I became aware, no matter how powerful the monster is, if it is forced in unsupportive rulesets, it will become something ordinary. And after I was in the Diamond league, many of the opponents brought the Runi I met, and indeed the right Rulesets were needed to make Runi extraordinarily strong.
I'm neither a proplayer nor a tournament hero. I just enjoys sharing srategy and battles that I find interesting in my own view. So don't imagine this is going to be a very extraordinary battle. Well, let's see what this battle looks like, and what strategy I use in the rulesets in this battle. Well, before looking at the battle I'm going to share, let's first get acquainted with RUNI here Introducing the Runicore!
The Runi card in the Splinterlands game is a Neutral Legendary 6-mana Monster card, which we expect will become a staple in many different team compositions and will hopefully help to drive a strong mint and high resale value for the NFTs going forward.
It has a strong Melee attack and targets the enemy with the least health via the Opportunity ability. While it has very slow Speed, it makes up for it with the True Strike ability, which means its Melee attack cannot miss. In addition to that, the magic of the Runicore gives it some Armor and protects it from indirect damage via the Reflection Shield ability.
Last, but not least, the Runi will have a new ability called Rebirth! Rebirth is a self-resurrect, so when the Runi dies it will come back to life with 1 Health! This ability can only trigger once per battle, and doesn't reset if the Runi is Resurrected by another card.
In Explosive Weaponry rulesets, Taunt monsters and monsters with the ability Reflection Shield are indispensable. The strategy that I will apply is to use the monster Taunt in the last position and in front of it there will be a monster with Reflection Shield. But since the monster with Reflection Shield that I have is only a level 1 Venator Kinjo and does not yet have the ability Immunity, maybe I will use a monster with a different mana in front of the monster Taunt. I will also place support with the Triage ability so that Taunt can restore HP so that it can last longer before dying. We should have used monsters with Cleanse abilities on Noxious Fumes Rulesets so that the monsters in the first position don't receive poison, or monsters with Immunity abilities, but since my monsters are limited I'll use monsters with Heal abilities in the middle of the formation. Let's just look at the complete line-up and strategy in the table below:
| Monster | Position | Ability | Strategy |
|---|---|---|---|
| Summoner | -1 Range, -1 Speed | Summoners who have debuffs reduce the opponent's speed, so there will be a chance for my monsters to attack first. Only this summoner that I have can summon monsters from element Dragons. | |
| First (Tank) | Void, Devine Shield, Piercing | This monster is only level 2 but I chose this monster because I think with the stats it has, it is very strong as a Tank. It has a large HP and Armor as well as Void abilities that protect this monster from Melee, Range, and even Magic attacks. The damage is also quite large, 4 Melee attacks which are also equipped with the Piercing ability that will penetrate the opponent's Armor. | |
| Second | Flying, Void, Phase | Monsters with very high speed so there is a chance to attack the opponent first, especially the Explosive Weaponry rulesets allow the attack to be more effective and the monster beside the target also feels the damage from each monster's attack. The position of this monster is behind the tank, so when the tank gets an attack from the opponent this monster will be hit by Blast, but I think this is not a big problem because this monster also has considerable HP | |
| Third | Flying, Heal | Although this is a melee monster that cannot attack the opponent in the first position, but I deliberately put this monster in the third position because it has Heal ability. The goal is that when hit by Poison, this monster will restore HP and become a rescue monster that determines victory just by staying silent. | |
| Fourth | Flying | Magic monster with high speed, like Void Dragon, this monster will we main attacker that can attack at the beginning round. Its because this monster just focus to be attacker, not defender, so I put this monster in Fifth position. | |
| Fifth (Support) | Stunt, Triage | The core components of this formation, because this monster as a Tank to receive blast from the Taunt, As an attacker with great damage and Stunt ability, and as Support with Triage Ability that will restore HP from back=line monster that have taken the most damage | |
| Last (Tank) | Taunt, Forcefield | Become the target of all the opposing monsters (if they are able to) so that the blast caused does not spread. This monster also has a Forcefield ability which is very useful as a tank. Maybe this monster is the monster that will die first. |
When I first saw the opponent's Line-up, I immediately said "WOW", this is because I use monsters and summoners who are still unfamiliar to me. Lwan uses the Summoner Possibilus the Wish which is a new summoner that has the ability +2 HP, Enrage, Reach. In addition, there is Archemis the Bear, a monster that I myself have never used this monster, so I don't know how powerful this monster is. And what makes me feel even more pessimistic is that there is Runi here.

Let's discuss the course of the round by round match.
The match begins by featuring buffs and debuffs from all summoners and monsters. The average speed of monsters from my deck is higher than that of the opponent's monsters. My Regal Peryton became the first monster to attack because of the highest speed. The next attack was from the Void Dragon, but it missed. The Opponent's tank is a Neutral Legendary monster, Coeurl Cruel. This monster has Dodge and Phase abilities, so it's no wonder that there is a missed attack. No monsters died in this round, but Mycelic Slipspawn's remaining HP is very thin and will probably die in the next round.
The second round begins with poison dripping onto all monsters, in addition to those with Immunity, and monsters that have been cleanseed. But Coeurl Lurker died at the beginning of round 2 as a result of an attack from Regal Peryton. Then Coeulr Lurker is resurrected again by the Resurect monster, With 1 magic damage, this monster finally died from Regal Peryton's shot. It wasn't long before Junker also died. My Mycelic Slipspawn matu, and finally 5 monsters left on your side and 4 monsters left from the opposing side
Just like the second round, the third round begins with the poison dripping onto the monster's escape. Runi has Immunity, so it does not accept poison.
Finally the moment of rebirth is present. The dead Euni came back to life with 1 HP. My Void Dragon is dead and now at the end of the third round there is 2 monsters left on the opposing side, while on my side I have partial ownership of the house.
Runi with 1 HP was in the first position, but died immediately after receiving Regal Peryton's attack. Only saru Range monsters remained on the opponent's side. This means that the opponent is no longer able to attack and my victory is in sight
This round went quickly, and there ended there was a 4th round. I won with 4 monsters left. You can see the final result of this battle in the bland below:
Do not force the use of certain monsters if the rulesets do not support. No matter how strong the monsters are, if they are used in improper rulesets, they can actually cause defeat.
