Some of my followers might remember me writing a few pieces about my two odd-ball neighbors Sheri and Ed. Well, it has been a while since I took the liberty of secretly exposing their craziness to the world, here upon the pages of the Hive Blockchain... There's good reason for it now...

As of a few weeks ago, while I was in the process of hanging another batch of homegrown tomatoes on their doorknob, Ed was exiting with a jug of water for their sickly looking Elephant Ear on the front porch.

Unfortunately, he looked more sickly than the plant, which was weakly crying out for a merciful drink from it's confined, potted entrapment. As a matter of fact, he looked more ill than his wife Sheri did a few days prior when I encountered her peering out from the safety of their sheltering abode...

She had stepped from behind her door upon seeing me. That gesture had become increasingly rare from the onset of the worldwide announcement a new, microscopic, bug was running rampant throughout the globe seeking to slaughter the masses.

Of course she stepped somewhat cautiously towards me, diligently adjusting her surgical mask and twisting wide eyes left then right in an appropriate vigilant manner...

Sheri informed me of having contracted the dreaded Covid shortly after receiving her protective experimental shot of the vaccine about a year ago. She spoke of all the symptoms which plagued her, along with the weakening weight loss of over twenty-five pounds.

Unlike the average American, in these modern times, Sheri was always thin as opposed to fat. Rather, many would refer to her as "skinny"; she now looked gravely emaciated... pale and frail.

Ed...??? Well... he is now trapped within a body that fights for a few moments of peaceful stillness. His stuttering voice has become difficult to understand. It fluctuates between soft and loud... deep and high in pitch... shaky and smooth; but rarely smooth...

Doctors say, he has Parkinson's Disease It's a disease not fully understood, with exception to a relationship with dopamine availability/utilization. The effects and prognosis runs very similar to that of Alzheimer's Disease. It usually presents later in life, after the age of sixty - Ed is 61, one year short of retirement.

Looks like I should spend more time checking in on the two of them, rather than use them as a source of satire like in the past; regardless how funny their odd personalities always struck me. I'd feel way to guilty making fun of them now... They'll be needing help with various chores, I'm sure. Especially with common, exterior property maintenance tasks, like leaf raking, sweeping, mowing of grass, snow removal, etc.

Dr. Sheri and Ed both have no children from previous marriages, nor any from their time together; so, that means the absence of helping hands in this time of need. Fortunately, they should be fine financially though. Ed's pension plan from his Company has kicked in since he's no longer able to work and he's eligible for governmental disability payments which will switch over automatically to Social Security Retirement in about a years time.

I may be ten years older then they, but gratefully, a lot healthier at this point; so, I'm happy to help out physically when needed.

Isn't that (in part) what life's all about; sharing and caring...??? Besides... helping from the heart, helps in making our own heart happier and healthier than it might otherwise be.

My only problem at the moment, is that I'd feel too guilty about using Sheri and Ed as subjects for laughs in future musings. Quite a devastating outcome - if I do say so myself.

Not to worry though... I have two other subjects in mind - Ted and Mary...馃槒 They live right up the street from me and are peculiar enough to use for a few good chuckles. As a matter of fact... there are quite a few odd-balls living around me. I'm probably the only somewhat sane one existing for miles and miles...???

I'm fortunate in that way, except for when I'm not...

Keep well my friends...or, get that way...

Ciao
