Once upon a time in my childhood, a lot of years ago Christmas officially started on 1st December. I can still hear my mother saying, wait until December to play the Christmas carols, buy gifts, decorate the house, cook the fruit cake and pudding. And we did like the good little kids we were!
With great delight the seven of us kids were each given a few shillings to buy every member of the family gifts. I remember the fun and excitement as we all went to the department store to buy little boxes of powder, perfume, handkerchiefs, pocket knives, comics etc. Secretly behind closed doors all were carefully wrapped and then placed under the tree my father would chop down the week before Christmas. Many eager helpers decorated the tree and I can still see the multitude of presents scattered far and wide on the floor.
But, all has changed, the shops are filled with everything Christmas a couple of months before December. Commercialism has changed the benchmarks and I am not sure whether this is good or not?
Certainly it is good for getting into the Christmas mood! A big plus for Charities to organise the public to give, time for those individuals who buy gifts early for family and friends living overseas, and for the parents to buy their kids presents while they are at school. Or maybe there are many others like me who fit into the #sillverblogger age group, who ignore the early commercial hype until the first day of December.
Memories of my childhood Christmases are tucked inside me, memories that have been passed onto my children over their childhood years and now passing onto their children.
Let us all joyfully celebrate the merry season of Christmas sharing goodwill, spreading love and wishing every person the best of good health.

The flower plant symbolising the Christmas season in Australian is the pretty red Poinsettia. Pots of flowering poinsettias are for strategically placed in nurseries for gardeners and gift seekers to buy at this time of the year.
To me, a totally besotted #alwaysaflower girl it seemed most fitting and very apt to finish my post on Christmas with a poinsettia flower photo I took during the year. It is one I have shared in a previous post. But this time I send a very oversized happy Christmas season flower greeting. Just feel the over joyous flower power.
