Our adventure in Super Mario 3D World begins when Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach and Toad are spending the night looking at the sky and suddenly Bowser appears, he kidnaps a princess fairy and put her in a bottle, Mario and his friends didn´t just watch this, since they decided to look after Bowser and saving all the princess fairies, this task won´t be that easy because Mario and his friends will have to overcome a lot of levels to reach Bowser and saving the fairies.
Although it was a videogame released many years ago, it looks splendid, it runs on 1080p on tv and 720p on the gamepad, but what helps Super Mario 3D World looks amazing isn´t the resolution, the graphic details of this game is what helps, since shadows and lighting are really well done, textures looks amazing too and the character modeling looks really nice, I was impressed a Mario game looked like this on the Wii U.
Super Mario 3D World is a Mario game that in essence mixes both 2D and 3D designs in its levels, at first I thought this would cause an identity crisis to the game, but I couldn´t be more wrong, I don´t know how Nintendo did but the game it´s amazing, it mixes a little bit the exploration of 3D Mario games and the linearity of 2D Mario games. In summary, every level of the game will have characteristics from the 2D Mario games like the timer and characteristics from 3D Mario games like the exploration without being too big, there will be times when we´ll have to take advantage from the mixed 2D and 3D to discover secrets. Super Mario 3D World has a multiplayer mode too where we can finish the stages and levels with our friends, it´s up to 4 players.
Super Mario 3D World has power-ups like the Mario games usually has, there is a new power-up in which Mario and his friends can turn in cats, this is by far the most interesting and useful transformation in the game, since Mario can climb walls to reach new areas, it can be used to cut path too, making it perfect to complete levels faster, of course, after one hit we´ll lose our transformaion as any other power-up. There are others power-up like Fire Mario which let us to throw fire balls, Tanooki Mario which let us levitate for some seconds and some others that have already been seen.
Something that I personally loved from this game it has to be its big charisma and the creatiivity on the levels of the game, in Nintendo there are people that is talented at the hour of designin levels and Super Mario 3D World is not the excuse, since the creativity this game has is amazing. Finally, I´d like to add that in difficulty terms, Super Mario 3D World managed to surprise me, as a Wii U game I expected an easier Mario game but on the contrary, I found this game kind of challenging, of course it´s not like it´s a unbeatable game or something like that, but it sure has its difficulty curve, we begin from small things until things get more and more complicated, like I said, not like the game it´s impossible to beat or it´s the hardest Mario game to beat but it can be difficult sometimes, the game doesn´t treat you as a kid.
I expected Super Mario 3D World to be a short game but my expectatives were overcome too, I just finished the game and it took me about 12 hours I think, keep in mind that I just finished the game, I haven´t unlocked the last level of the game that is unlocked by finishing the game at the 100%, after completing the game, some levels get unlocked, so I´d say this game would take me around 20 hours, nothing bad for a Mario game.
The truth is, I wasn´t expecting too much from this game but it the end it managed to surprise me for good, I know the Wii U it´s a videogame console that didn´t sold well but it´s kinda weird that no one talks about Super Mario 3D World, it´s an amazing Mario game, anyways, I´m glad it´s going to have its Nintendo Switch port soon so more people can play it. In the end, Super Mario 3D World is the first game I´m ever playing on this console and I´m really happy for the experience, I hope the other games are as good as this game or even better, I´m kinda excited too see what the Wii U can offer me.
