A couple of weeks ago I was outside getting in the washing, it was extremely hot and humid. While I was standing there the thunder started rolling around the hills and I went inside inspired to write this.

Tuesday’s Storm

Sitting in the heat of the day
Humidity surrounds me driving me inside
Out of the midday heat

The thunder starts as a far away rumble
The sky slowly darkening bringing
Evening light to the middle of the day

Rain splashes softly on my porch roof
Like sweet music to my ears
The pitter patter, a long awaited melody

The thunder draws nearer
The booming echoes off the nearby hills
Seemingly surrounding me

The lightning flashes brightly
Illuminating my room
The air electric, almost sizzling

Glistening briefly on the parched earth
The ground soaks up the storms reward
Promising new growth

With wind whistling through the trees
The temperature drops quickly
Bringing relief from the stifling heat
