If you are long enough on Hive and like games, many opportunities come to mind. Splinterlands is by far the most popular and most active one. And in my opinion the most fun one as well.
But I like to diversify my time and resources and also try out some other fun experiences. Rising Star Game is one of those. So far, I am not really invested into the game and just playing it as a side game. And I am not really “part of the community” since I haven’t joined any discords and this is my first interaction on peakd.
I also just recently followed the community in Peakd. And I’m just level17 and bought my first few cards just some days ago. So even though I’m still a beginner in Splinterlands, in Rising Star Game, my experience is even on a more basic level.
Why Rising Star?
First of all, it is to be answered, why am I starting to play Rising Star Game and also why am I starting to blog about it?
My first thought was the following: I still have very little experience in crypto-gaming. Also cryptos in general. Splinterlands is an amazing game and I really enjoy playing it. But Splinterlands seems to be in a much more developed state than RSG. The community is much more developed as far as I can see and so are the prices. RSG seems more in the early stages in my opinion. So the risks are higher, but so are the potential rewards. The early bird catches the worm, and the early adopter the higher profits.
Also, as mentioned before I want to diversify my portfolio. A few days ago, Splinterlands made up more then 80% of my holdings in crypto-gaming assets on a USD-value base at current exchange rates. In my investors mind, that is not a very good asset allocation and it bears the big risk, that if Splinterlands would have problems or even fail, most of my crypto-gaming assets would be lost. Recently that changed a little, when I got won two cards in Sorare, but both of those games make up more than 90% of my cryptop-gaming portfolio right now, which still feels way to high. It is a good start, because both are really independent of each other. Sorare is based on Ethereum and its blockchain, while Splinterlands is on Hive.
Another thought is that since RSG is even in an early stage than Splinterlands, the potential returns are even higher. If the game is going to be successful in the future, it might be, that the assets I am accumulating right now are going to appreciate a lot or even skyrocket in the years to come. I have seen a lot of price appreciation even in the few weeks I am in the game and really enjoy playing it. But Splinterlands is already at a few hundred thousand daily viewers, so the potential gains are somehow more limited, than in a game that has a lot fewer daily active users. Of course, as I already said, the risks are also higher.
Music seems to be an interesting topic and if RSG can take a role in the transformation of the music market, opening the way for music NFTs into the broad market. To me, that is some appealing midterm perspective. I don’t think that RSG by itself has the power and reach to revolutionize the music market, but one can dream!
How does it work
The game play of Rising Star Game is even more straightforward than Splinterlands and the options are more limited. Actually most of the time it is just choosing a mission, waiting for it to end and choosing another mission. Especially in the beginning it is not really exciting, since the only thing you can do is to do some Illegal Busking. It is a five Minute task, which gives a little experience and very few startbits. You have 100% energy and can gain fans and starbits through (all) the missions.
As soon as you reach leve 2, you can go for the Open Mic Night, a ten minute task with 10-49 startbits. With Level 5 you can do a Mid Week Support Slot, as long as you have enough fans. Same goes for the level 8 task of doing Buskin with a Licence.
For the bigger tasks, you need to complete the smaller ones for a few times, have the level and fan amount to be eligible.
With level 15 or more than 1,000 fans, you start to accumulate ego, which hurts your startbit income. So that is the latest time to join music lessons. At level 10 you can already do basic singing lessons and guitar lessons. Piano lessons are starting at level 25, but you need 1,000 fans, which seems like quite a lot to me right now. Production Lessons are at Level 30 with 10 fans.
You can also buy cards or packs, which can award you fans, luck, skill or income modifiers. The cards are NFTs, as far as I know, and those cards come in different rarity levels: Common, Rare, Epic, Legendary. There are also Special, Founder, Festival, Seasonal and Limited Edition Cards. And there are also different types: People, Instruments, Vehicles, Boosters, Others, Crafted, Records and Festival.
The main currency are Starbits, but there are also Starbits Pro, which can either be bought or awarded through the music promoter track.
The outlook
As already mentioned above I just started the game. I bought a few common cards to get some skills, luck and fans, but right now saving my starbits to buy a pack and hope to get something nice out of it, since I am not sure, if the common cards are really that good. It also seems like you can only have a limited amount of cards.
So far, Rising Star Game seems like a nice side “gig”. There aren’t as many things to do, as in Splinterlands, but I think that there is a lot to come.
Right now I am not investing money into the game, but trying to accumulate some of their crypto-currency by playing the game.
