Hey Steemit community! I will introduce myself by getting something off my chest that really has my hyped - the blockchain - and the fact that no one around me seems to be interested in it AT ALL. Internet to the rescue, again!
I plan to be very active on Steemit in the future since from what I can understand it really is a space of freedom and understanding.
So, without further ado, here's my 5 cents on something that I probably know way too little about:
I am not in any way a tech-savvy person. I know what the Internet is, I know what cryptocurrencies are, how ithey're produced and purchased and why they are important, and I have a basic understanding of the technolgy behind the blockchain. What I DO know and recognize, however, is the importance of these new platforms (like Steemit) being launched. I can see the true value of having decentralised apps and platforms and I can se that we are somewhere around the beginning of a revolution in personal freedom – although I do not know exactly where.
I can see that there is a high probability for dapps (decentralised apps) and platforms on the blockchain taking over and replacing all known platforms and apps that we currently use.
Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Gmail, games, online businesses, and even sites like Pornhub – EVERYTHING will, in my mind, be replaced over the next few decades by companies that share their revenue or stock with their userbase.
In an attempt to convey the importance of these technologies to a somewhat conservative family member, I came up with this analogy: Right now we are only able to build in wood (the Internet as we know it). Our technologies allow us to build solid and well-working houses and structures out of wood, but wood only – and now we have just learnt to build in stone (the blockchain technology).
Historically, going from wooden houses to stone houses was a huuuge deal. If you can really understand the importance and difference in these human advances, then you can start to grasp the idea of how crucial platforms like Steemit are.
And THAT is the importance of the blockchain.
Now, I am no internet guru or in any way qualified to make statements like this one – please correct me if I am wrong, or share your insights in the comments if you want to add to this analogy.
This is simply how I see it and from what I could understand in my family member's face, it made sense to them as well.
Is this analogy wrong? Is it right?
