Hey everyone! Hope you all are doing great. In today's post I want to share my first semester portfolio with all of you! It was an exciting yet a tedious process for me , just being honest.
I was so excited to work on my first ever semester booklet in architecture school. I always had a colour pallette in mind right from the start and had decided I would go for this one for my first booklet and so I did.
The booklet was designed on Canva ( on my phone since I don't have a laptop and don't know how to use Adobe InDesign ). But I'm proud of myself , because it turned out well . Pat myself on the back for this one.
I went for a neutral colour pallette. Beige and brown are my favourite colours. I did want to add sap green to it but then later I thought that wouldn't be such a great idea to load a lot of colours together. And so I went for a monochromatic colour scheme and chose a neutral pastel theme for the booklet.
For the cover page I added my photograph in black and white edit. Keep in mind I don't understand composition that well yet and I know I'll try and do better each time. I don't know if I have composed the cover page well , but to me it looked good. I wanted to keep it simple , neat and to the point. It turned out how I wanted it to. I learnt that the combination of neutral colour palette with a black and white photograph is a great one. It just goes hand in hand you know.
For the contents page I went ahead and added black and white photos that I had photographed myself . I loved the way it turned out . I'm not going to lie but I couldn't really decide as to how to design the layout for the contents page . It took me a day to come up with this , something this simple , yes . But I had no clue as to how I could design it. But in the end I went with something simple and I was happy with the outcome.
Moving on to all the page breakers. I didn't want all the page breakers to turn out the same. I wanted each one to look different and be unique . I spent a lot of time trying to design these. I didn't use any sort of a layout or anything to design , it was designed from scratch.
The order of the booklet might not be correct but yeah you can clearly see all the page breakers. Although it didn't take a lot of time for me to complete all of this , I sat everyday for 30 to 45 minutes each for seven days straight so that I could come up with new layouts and designs everyday. And that is how I would come up with a versatile and creative portfolio. Although it might not be that good of a booklet , I'm proud of it. I know I'll be doing a better and better job as I keep designing more and more portfolios. I know I'll get better at this. I have come to realise I like designing portfolios. It's an interesting process to have to go through others designs and get inspired , to search for colour pallette. The whole process is so much fun and so much creative involvement.
We had to talk about each exercise , maybe about the process , about what the exercise was to what we learnt in that particular exercise .
I'm so excited everytime I have to work on a portfolio, it's just so exciting. To be able to just sit and work on the creative process is just how I want it to be like. This is all for today's post. Hope you are doing good again. I will see you all in my next post. Byeee
