I love walking where the streets are empty too, it gives a very post-apocalyptic feel. Its a little funny to me that this place is considered a rough area though, I must admit, where I grew up, this would be considered a totally safe neighborhood. I grew up in a place where there were gunshots outside maybe 3-4 days a week. Also on the subject of not carrying guns, I must disagree with you there. If you feel genuinely unsafe, a gun is your best friend, and the only thing that can save you from death in many cases. Just make sure you get proper training, a gun is not a toy.
