“LORD, by thy favour thou hast made my mountain to stand strong: thou didst hide thy face, and I was troubled” (Psalm 30:7 KJV)
It is interesting how people complain of how God has forgotten them, or how He has not favoured them at all. It must be the reason why the song writer asked us to count our blessings and to name them one by one. People only see favour where they received things, or get richer, or encounter an open door. But we hardly see safety and security as part of God’s favour.
David thought deep enough to know that it was God’s favour that had kept him secured up till then. He had several enemies after him. A lion once attacked him and his father’s flock in his care; a bear came from nowhere to do the same, but God delivered him from them all. God saved him from the hands of Goliath, and above all, all of King Saul’s attempt on his life did not succeed. Then he looked round and considered it a favour from God that he was still secure and unharmed.
Don’t take for granted the fact that no harm has come to you. Don’t despise the fact that you can sleep sound and wake up whenever you like. It is all God’s favour as well, amongst other things. David also said in Psalm 3:5; “I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the LORD sustained me”. This is serious favour. The fact that you slept sound does not mean that there were no attempts on your life, but God favoured you nonetheless. Many houses were robbed last night, but God favoured you. And just in case you didn’t know, many bodies were deposited in the mortuary this morning, but you were not among them – that was God’s favour.
Thank God today for all His favour on your life.
