๐ท๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐ญ๐๐๐ ๐ป๐๐!
Professionals fail too!
Hey Hive fam, it was quite a hectic and sad day for me.
Do you know that sometimes I question my choice of career, because it's really tough out here.
Most times, I share my wins on here, but today I decided to show you some of the dark and ugly sides of being a fashion designer.
The truth is, the journey is not always rosy.. So grab a seat and hear me out .
Sometime last week, a client reached out to me virtually. She sent me her style inspiration and to be honest, it looked so easy.
As a matter of fact, I've made a dress similar to it but I failed to pay attention some details that made hers quite different from the one I've made before for another client.
We had our consultation, virtual measurement appointment and I got down to business.
I made the draft of the dress with my initial inspiration experience hoping I was on track.
I transferred to fabric and had even sewn to a certain point where things didn't seem right anymore.
The two armhole for front and back were no longer aligning, that was when it dawned on me that I had messed up.
I went back to the original style inspiration video to see what went wrong, then I knew I had to redraft, recut and resew.
My morale died instantly becaussit was a great loss on my part.
I had to use my personal money to buy another fabric but I had to ensure I figured out the right thing to do first before taking another move.
I spent twice the cost of workmanship I had charged my client. My time, energy, pattern paper, airstay and all.
I realized the original style needed the slash and spread method to achieve the fullness and maintain the armhole shape.
If you look closely you'll see the first outfit which was wrong and beside it is the one I intended to achieve with the slash and spread method.
Discarding the old one was so painful because I came that far with so much commitment.
Although I failed initially, I still got up and tried again until it made sense.
Although I'm not yet done with the dress, I thought of sharing it with you all that most times behind the beautiful dresses you see, came hot tears, retreat, endless calculations, sleepless night and determination to get itigt.
I'm starting all over again because I choose quality over Medorcrity. My brand's Reputation mean a lot to me and I've vowed never to let any bad dress leave my office.
It's either I get it right or I get it right, no buts and no excuses.
I cheer myself up because I'm a biggest fan. And every mistake makes me more skilled in the profession.
When I'm done with the outfit, I'll also share it with you all.
This is one of the struggles of being g a fashion designer.
