This is highly because the staffs know that whether they put in their best or not the government will still pay their salaries at the end of the month.
My primary school days was in a missionary private school. It was more like a public school because it was cheap and have under qualified teachers. I was just an average pupil that see no need to improve myself or ever challenge myself. It was like a tradition in my family for all of us to attend this missionary school after which we will head to public schools for our high school education. Well the tradition was broken when it got to my turn because the public schools went on an indefinite strike under the bad government of Chimaraoke Mbadinuju over unpaid salaries. This was a great opportunity and excuse to break free from the tradition and forge my way into private school. I had two elites private schools in mind; Kezz Foundation school and Learning field international school. These school were always shown in television and i have dreamt severely of attending any of them. I know my father would frown at it if i had asked because of how expensive they were. So when this opportunity came i grabbed it with an open hands. I was able to convince my father into enrolling me in a private school rather than waiting with my two other siblings whom were already in public school for the government to call off the strike.
My first day in the Kezz foundation school was a dream come true for me. I was put in class C because A and B were filled up already. I also got to know that the brighter students get to stay in clasa A. The first 25 students with the highest marks stay in class A, the second 25 stay in class B and others stay in class C. This made me to embark on a reading culture and self improvement to prove my worth. My father walked in on me severally during the wee hours of the morning studying and i can tell you he was so impressed and happy that he was getting results for his money. The second year came and i made it to class A. Another competition was waiting for me in class A and that was to be among the first ten students. It was one hell of a competitive class and before i know what was happening i was a changed person.
A better version of myself that i never knew existed.
Private schools help to increase performance through healthy competition. Schools works more effectively and efficiently when they are being managed by private individuals.
After my Junoir Wacce examination i made it known to my father that I will not be coming back to the school. He was so disappointed and tried to made me stay but my mind was made up. I gave him the excuse that a teacher that once bullied me will still take me in my senoir class but what i was actually after was my FREEDOM. I went back to the public school that i was earlier supposed to be in and i was free from the high handedness of private schools. Private school made me think that i was in a cage. I will come to school as early as 7:30am and leave at 5:30pm. There were many rules that must be observed strictly and my educational activities that you dare not to miss else you face being punished severally.
I got to enjoy my freedom in the public school but there was a decrease to the quality of education i got. There was zero competition, zero discipline and zero morals but i was lucky it didn't affect my reading culture. Some teachers will come to class very late and others might not even come atall. Some even gave us their notes to copy while they remained in their office gisting or sleeping. My years in a public university was no different. After my first year in the university, the lecturers embarked on an indefinite strike that lasted for a year. My junoir sister suffered the same fate too. It was like a normal norm for everyone in public university to experience this one year delay caused by Lecturers's strike.
I will therefore stand for private school anytime, anyday.
