Emerald knew that something was not just right with the meeting. She can feel it deep inside her, infact she can tell it. It was crystal clear. The handwriting was on the wall. It's been one week since she went over to his house and they talked.

He responded positively but his actions afterward were speaking the opposite

She sat down on the bed and tried so much not to cry as she recalled the words that came out from his mouth as he touched her face.

Your face is so rough, not like the pretty girl i use to know.

Well to think that he expected her to still be the same after so many years made her more angry. She had grown and so has her body too. Her arms still bear the scar from the accident and a little on the face despite all her effort to get rid of that memory.

She reached for her phone under the pillow and dailed the number that had lived rent free in her head for over fifteen years. She ended the call before it can go through wondering if she was about to make the worst mistake of her life.

Emerald got up from the bed and walked over to the mirror to stare at her body. She has added ten pounds since last month and her eyes were so big as if they want to pop out of her small face.

How can i compare myself to these city girls that will be throwing themselves at him?.
How can he possibly feel anything for me?.

She dragged herself back to her bed and this time the bed cried in pain as she sat down on it and with the tiniest courage in her, she dailed the number again.

Emerald how are you doing?.

And when she enquired why he has not checked up on her for a while he responded that he was busy with lost of project and besides why would she have such an expectations of him.

Even after everything we shared together?.

And there, she got the answer she has been seeking for years. He said it himself that she was way out of his league. She wasn't suprised but hurt for hoping that maybe someday he would profess his love for her and tell her how he can't live without her.

Can we end it please, whatever it is that we still have together? I want all communication to end. Please do not ever call me again

Why? Can't we just be friends? Must we end all communications?

Emerald nodded as if he can see right through the phone. She was too much into him to just be friends. Being just friends will just be another lie that would leave her stagnat and waste more years waiting for that day he will finally pick her. It's better she let him go, it's the best she can do atleast for her self esteem.

"Yes, please i don't ever want to hear from you again. Have a good life"

And she end the call. Deep down she know that he will never call back, he never cared that much to do so. But she knew that finally she is free from him. Not that he held her prisoner but she held herself prisoner of infatuation.
