As a mother, one thing that i am intentional about is being present in my children's school activites to offer them my emotional, financial and physical support. This was a decision that I took long ago and so far God has been helping me to keep to it.
Yesterday was another day to show my beautiful face at my girl's school as they invited all parents to their Carol of nine lessons. At first I had wanted to dodge this event since my children were not performing but on the other hand I still thought it would be nice to grace the occasion to support my children and the kids that performed. They will need all the cheering and clapping to keep them excited and inspired.
Everyone of them were asked to come to school dressed in white and a Christmas cap whether you are performing or not. I was really excited when I arrived at the school hall. It was time for my daughters class to perform and they sang ...
All I want for christmas is my two front teeth
I knew this song so well and I sang it along with them in excitement. They were told during their last midterm break to learn the song as it's only those who did will be allowed to perform. My daughter was down with malaria so I didn't bother telling her to learn since she was sick. Well I figured she wouldn't mind missing that one performance because she has been literally in all of her class performances.
The hall was packed with parents who were beaming in excitement and anticipation. We were also told to dress in white and wear a red cap. I couldn't help but be proud of every single parents in the hall for bringing out time to be presence in their children's school activites. In as much as it's the right thing to do they also have the option of not coming but filled with so much love for their children they chose to come.
I went up to my daughter's class to say hi to their teachers. It's almost like a mandatory thing for me to always say hi to their teachers whenever I come to their school. This I deemed necessary because i don't always come to the school since my children are on school bus services so it's important that I get to show myself to them anyday I happened to attend school event so that they can see me and also fill me in on any information that I need to know concerning my girls.
I took permission from their class teachers to steal my girls for some minutes. My girls were very happy to see me. We went downstairs to take pictures together after which they went back to their classes and I back to their school hall. There were more performances and plays. The teachers did good job preparing the children for this event.
The parents also got to perform too even though it wasn't planned but it was just an impromptu performance to keep the atmosphere bubbling with excitement. They attended to us well by giving us party jollof rice and drinks. When the event was over they have each parents gift bag containing kitchen towel and cutleries of all types.
That was a very thoughtful gift because it's what we use eveyday at home.
