I don’t know if someone else has also felt so but I have observed that the need of sleep increases in winter as compared to summer. (It is important to mention here that I live in a country where winter solstice is only 4 and a half hour shorter than summer solstice.)
Perhaps, increased need of sleep is the reason why God has created longer nights for winter. But who cares! We are in a civilized world where clocks are there to dictate and decide for our routines.
We are in the era where sun is not a need to carry on activities. We have electricity and sparkling lights so that we can shine up our homes, alleyways, roads and whole town in a way as bright as the day.
With brighter nights we are now able to conduct several indoor and outdoor activities which otherwise would be impossible.
We have more reason and sources to awake till late night. Travelling after day time is not an issue. Restaurants and night clubs are ready to welcome us. Markets are opened with all their glitters.
If you are not in the mood of consuming any outdoor facility, Television, smartphones and Internet are there right inside your bedroom. So you have quick and easier options to entertain you lying on a couch.
It is because scientific development and civilization has made our nights bright.
I have no idea how the things are operated in other parts of the world but I am so pissed off the routine followed in my city.
Markets are opened so late in the morning (actually in the afternoon) and consequently are closed late. The businessmen and employees working in the markets reach home late in the evening and remain awake till late night.
It is such a destructive routine. Awakening till late night is associated with many psychological and physiological pathologies..
It’s my personal observation that our body does not only need particular amount of time for sleeping but also the time at which we sleep also matters for the quality sleep.
For instance, a 6 hours night sleep from 11 to 5 is more fulfilling than a sleep from 12 to 6. It stands true for me. I have no idea about any research backing.
I often wish to go back to an era where nights were naturally dark and days started with the sun. I feel the abundance of time in such days.
If anyone is raising their eyebrows listening to me, I should tell you the reason for such a wish.
I am a victim of such an absurd routine. Despite all my desires I cannot alter it according to my liking.
My husband works at a marketplace. He returns home after 10. Sometimes, near 11. It is after this time we have our dinner. (So bad for digestive system). It is a booty if we manage to go to bed at 12.
I cannot blame the hubby either. He has to follow the system while the system is utilizing a great invention inappropriately.
Aaaaah! I just imagine the positivity of the era where sun would make us form our routines in a healthy way in accordance with the nature.
Nevertheless, a contemplation about such an era gives me chills too. You know, why?
When I imagine of having no proper sewerage and sanitary system, I feel blessed being in a civilized society.
Think how difficult it would be to go so far away from your homes for your bowl and bladder's needs. What if there is an emergency and you are not likely to reach the dedicated place on time! 😨
Besides, how disgusting it would be to clean that mess. Ewwww! Urgh!
I love the privacy I have because of an attached bathroom in my bedroom.
I can take bath any time I want. Be it night or the day.
Toilet cleaning is not that big an issue. Flush it out and the sewerage system will take it away.
In conclusion, where one aspect of civilization makes me frown, the other makes me feel blessed.
That’s how the world has always been. Every coin has a flip side. Every pro comes with a con.
If something we can do is to be mindful about the potential harmful effects and put our optimum efforts to minimize them.
