Hello there dance and music lovers,
Toni Cade Bambara once said that the role of the artist is to make the revolution irresistible. Music can be an incredible force for inner and outer awakening, arousing us from slumbered states. Reconnecting and liberating our hearts, minds, bodies, and relationships. Speaking to our deepest natures with what cannot necessarily be spoken to with the thinking mind. And with that, music has the power to meet a core human need: to be deeply seen.
Will Evans' music and words cracked my heavy, processing heart open. Discovering his music feels like a moment of synchronicity. An affirmation that despite the challenges, I'm following what's alive in my heart. Even if, and maybe especially when, it's risky to do so. Even when there are no guarantees of anything.
Will is a songwriter and frontman for the roots rock New England band Barefoot Truth. He's an activist, surfer, environmentalist, and multi-instrumentalist who integrates sounds of the didgeridoo, steel drums, percussive beatboxing, acoustic guitar, and layers of soulful vocals. Check out his live EPIC full moon flow here, where he creates the earthiest of beats and plays multiple instruments at the same time.
The themes in his songs center around love, inner healing, collective awakening, conscious activism, standing up to goodness and justice. His songs that touch me the most are Family Tree and Angel's Share.
No, I would not even try,
To hold something that was meant to fly...
To spread your sweet joy everywhere,
Cause I just want the angel's share.
Can I have the angel's share.
Now it's coming back to me...
Love was always meant to set you free.
So of course I danced to his wonderful music. I started the session with "Closer to Fine" by Indigo Girls as it spoke to what my soul wanted to hear. And it touches on a similar spirit that I feel with Will's music.
