Litecoin is an alternative currency (altcoin) similar to Bitcoin, categorized as a crypto-currency (cryptographic currency) under the digital currency family. It was one of the first altcoins to be created after Bitcoins were introduced. It was released as an open source software project licensed under the MIT/X11 license. After Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Ripple, Litecoin is the fourth-largest traded and utilized cryptocurrency in the world. Short form / abbreviation for Litecoin is LTC.
