I believe electric cars can replace gasoline engines. I'm not sure about totally though.
First, there's the issue of power source. If all the vehicles in the world were converted to electric cars, where would we get the power to run them?
Hydroelectric power plants are a no go area. At the same time, we can't keep converting coal and fuel to electric as the effect on the environment would offset the benefits of electric cars.
We could go the way of solar, wind and nuclear energy but that's a long shot.
Plus, I think some people are benefiting from the sales and use of gasoline engines. I don't think they'll give up easily without a fight.
Perhaps electric cars can TOTALLY replace gasoline engines. However, I think that can only happen in the very distant future
