Hello everyone. Today has been a rainy day. The rains are finally back after some days of hietus. A community within my neighbourhood did their traditional yam cutting ceremony to kick-start activities for this year's new yam festival. Youths and even adults trooped out enmass to grace the occasion. I've not seen such a crowd of new yam celebrants for sometime now. Larry considers if he'll join in the celebration 馃コ 馃帀 but laughs off the idea and rather turns his attention to have a look at today in #history.

Larry begins his look at today in history from Great Britain. He finds out that on this day in 1632, John Locke, an English philosopher, was born. His writings serve as the cornerstone of contemporary political liberalism and philosophical empiricism.

From Great Britain, Larry moves to China. He finds out that on this day in 1842, China ratified the Treaty of Nanjing, which stipulated that Hong Kong would be ceded to the United Kingdom, five treaty ports would be opened, British citizens accused of crimes in China would have the right to have their cases heard in British courts, and import and export tariffs would be limited.

From China, Larry moves over to the world of inventions and innovations. He finds out that on this day in 1893, Whitcomb L. Judson, an American entrepreneur and inventor, received a U.S. patent for a "clasp locker," which later became the modern zipper.

From the world of inventions and innovations, Larry moves over to the Soviet Union. He finds out that on this day in 1949, the Soviet Union tested its first atomic weapon (dubbed Joe-1 in the West); it was a carbon copy of the Fat Man bomb detonated by the United States troops on Nagasaki during WWII.

From the Soviet Union, Larry moves over to the world of entertainment. He finds out that on this day in 1997, Netflix was created by American entrepreneurs Reed Hastings and Marc Randolph; initially a video-rental company, it gradually expanded into video streaming and production.

From the world of entertainment, Larry moves over to the USA. He finds out that on this day in 1993, Sarah Palin was nominated as John McCain's running mate, marking the first time a woman featured on the Republican presidential ticket.

Still in the USA, Larry find out that Hurricane Katrina hit the United States' Gulf Coast on this day in 2005, wreaking havoc on the region, particularly New Orleans, which faced catastrophic flooding after its levees were breached the next day.

Finally, Larry rounds off his look at today in history from the world of music and entertainment. He finds out that on this day in 1958, Michael Jackson, an American singer, songwriter, dancer and the most popular entertainer in the world in the early and mid-1980s was born in Gary, Indiana.

Having seen all these pieces of historical events, Larry zooms off to begin his daily deliveries.

Let's now move over to the hunt for Larry...

Larry the postman as usual went about his duties delivering mails and am sure you know you can also get paid for just finding him. On my path, I hunted and found Larry in two places, that is, at Listnerds and CTPX!

Listnerd

With my hunt at Listnerds I read over ten mails to complete the task. Here are some of the interesting ones I read:
