Welcome to the next in an ongoing series of writing prompts in the Worldbuilding community !
I'm aiming to post one of these each Sunday. They aren't a replacement for the excellent daily prompts from

The prompt this week is - Locusts
Most of the modern world has lost it's fear of locusts. Even if an area is hit by a plague of them, 21st century communications and infrastructure mean that pesticides and emergency food supplies can be rushed to the area. Assuming there is the political will, of course.
But in the past, a plague of locusts was a truly Biblical curse. Entire harvests could be wiped out over large areas, and the cause of the plagues wasn't understood, making them unpredictable. Of course, there is always an upside. Locusts are a good source of protein if you can catch enough of them !
Tell me a story from your setting of a destructive unpredictable force of nature ! What is the plague made up of ? What is the cause ? How do people react, and what are the effects on people's lives ? Are there any positive aspects, and what steps are taken (or prayers spoken) to mitigate the problem ?
