The Intercontinental hotel was built between 1968 - 1970 according the plans of architects Dinu Hariton, Gheorghe Nădrag and I. Moscu,is the only hotel in Bucharest that has a conference hall and a health center with a swimming pool over 70 meters high.

It was 2019 the most awarded hotel at the International Hospitality Accolades. At the World Travel Awards, the Oscars of the tourism industry, was named one of the Romania's leading hotel.
