This is a picture of Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild, (also called villa Île-de-France). It was built between 1905 and 1912 for the Baroness Béatrice de Rothschild a mega-wealthy member of the Rothschild banking family. I visited it when I was in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat which is located on the French Riviera near Nice. It's amazing and a little mind-boggling when one begins to understand the immense wealth the Rothschild family commanded.
I have none of that wealth...But I still feel wealthy. Of course, not in a financial way...But I certainly feel I have other attributes in abundance and I believe the word wealthy shouldn't be reserved for financial connotations alone.
A wealth of knowledge or wisdom is still wealth; Not that I am particularly wise or knowledgable; I'm still working on that. Could someone have a wealth of compassion, humour, understanding or generosity? Yes, I believe so.
I'm not one of the wealthy but, whilst I feel privileged to have had the chance to visit this amazing villa and experience true financial wealth, I feel fortunate to be a little closer to being wealthy in other areas each and every day.
