So, the the past 2 months or so, I have been coming up with reasons why steem is the best blockchain around. I intend to keep it going because there are tons of reasons. I am not reading back to see if they have already been done, but I am pretty sure that they have not, but there will be some overlap as concepts end up being related, but the connotations different. Ya dig? Good. Let's let's get into it!
Reason # 57
Steem can be a bank
There are a lot of ways that steem can be a bank. And a better bank at that.
Steem can be a high interest savings account. If you are bullish on steem, it can even be a really really high interest savings account. You can take some money, convert it to steem, power it up and make your plays, whether delegation, curation, social interaction etc... you will start to earn steem. With 1000 + SP in my account, I have been doing my thing consistently lately, and I have managed to add 22 Steem to my account last week! Sure, it may only be $17 or something... but how many banks do you know where you can deposit $800 and earn $17 in interest a week?
Steem is a lending platform. You can look at all of the cool initiatives going on and lend some steempower to the cause. usually the program that you are supporting sends you something back in return. 5% interest perhaps? That, is also better than a bank... and passive. You don't need to do anything but power up and set it on auto-pilot.
There is actually a witness / steemian that runs a bank with SBD and Steempower. 
It is also a bank in that we can "write checks" to any other steemian and in 3 seconds... it is cleared and in the new bank account. Of course, updated in an immutable blockchain ledger. Amazing isn't it. How long until the rest of the world catches up to the future?!
