I use Hive Engine and have tried to "support" it. I have a bunch of workerbee and bee tokens and have been "patiently" waiting for the big announcement of how I can earn by providing liquidity. I have heard nothing really, and much like you, think that the project if great, but the publicity etc could use work. In the past two weeks I moved $5k of liquidity to Cubdefi as it was laid out easy for me. That liquidity could be in tribaldex pools, but I don't know what the point is, I have heard nothing about the reward structure. So, I guess I am farming CUB.
As a big splinterlands player, I was forced to use it and learn it, and by doing so, got into it and invested in some projects (pennies that could become dollars). I have batted around the idea of starting a witness for it as well (no clue, but others with less have done it). I am rooting for it and am glad that you brought up these concerns as you are no the only one with them.
