Greetings dear food enjoyers, hope all of you are doing good. The hole month of Ramadan begins meaning a month of fasting for us Muslims. An opportune moment for us to reflect and form a real connecting with the almighty god.
Because of this I want to share this food adventure that I had before the holy month began.
The first place that we went to is situated at Gulshan just a little ahead of Herfy. To be exact, it’s at
23 Gulshan Ave, Dhaka 1212. The name of the place is Farmhouse Burger. We had planned to go here for quite a while. All of us saved up enough to come to this place as it was shit expensive, more than 3x the burger joint we usually visit. Their interior was amazing, almost gave a vibe of a bar abroad. The ambience was soothing, their balanced melody was a bit funky and pacific. Perfect for food intake at peace.
I took the “Stinky Blue” burger. A burger with melted blue cheese, lettuce, a beef patty, brioche bun, grilled onions, a slice of tomato, and wing sauce.
It sounded good in the menu though, No so much up front. My friends and I were equally disappointed that this turned out to be a disaster for us. The size of the burger was not on par with the cost. Not only us but many of their customers think likewise. Although I must agree that the ingredients were fresh and the patty was too good. Yet, the size of the thing was too small, I almost felt bad that I had to spend about Tk600 on this short stuff.
I personally felt so as I am used to having larger burger back in Burger Lab in the Dhaka, Bashundhara branch. Additionally, the price of the burger in the Bashundhara branch is half of what Farmhouse charges for theirs. The first bite did leave me considering if it was maybe ok but the size of the thing lingered until I did decided that this was not a proper burger for us.
I ordered the “Chocolate” shake that they had.
Shakes are supposed to be a bit chilled, perfectly mixed and blended with the flavour that you like, in a fancy glass that set the mood for the thought that you would have as you sip down the sweet mouth-watering concoction of a liquid.
A poor whipped cream that filled about a quarter of the top portion of the glass with a shake underneath that seemed like a melted sub-standard vanilla ice cream. Another poor stuff that we 4 agreed on.
The below is the mac n’ cheese that we 4 ordered together. It was good for the first 2 bites though, the cheese that was generously poured was a good but there was not flavour here, very bland. Almost seemed like the pasta I and my friend made in his house, very cheese yet doughy.
By the pic you can see that this was no “buffalo” fry. They were plain fries and the hero do the dish was the sauce which was honestly very good, amazing. We did see the pic in the menu that they would drizzle it in the fries before they serve but they served us the sauce in one small bowl, we were utterly disappointed by this…
The burger in the distance was the one my friend ordered, it was the “Hot Chick”. This costed a little less than the one I ordered but the quantity was more in his than mine🥲.
The thing that made this a “Chocolate” shake was the topping, the chocolate sprinkles. It may look delish in the pic but trust me it was whipped cream only, heavy and bland.
We did let the authorities know about our view of the food and they gave us a good discount.
The best part of the whole experience was the friends that joined here after so many college days later. The fun stories we shared here and of course, their table football, foosball in North America.
The second place that I went was at Shimanto Square, Dhanmondi. A friend of my friend suggested me “The Melting Pot”. This happened to be the best ramen place for her. I thought why not, after such a disaster nothing more could faze me. It took them about 30 minutes to bring up the dish and truth be told, it was worth the wait. The person behind the counted suggested me this dish as he said that this was the original one that would surely give me a good experience. At first I thought that this level of marketing was grade A. Showing me an expensive one and saying that it was better, he knew I wouldn’t refuse as I was not showing much restraint to the price. After some thinking I thought, why not and went for it. After all, I do love a good ramen. I wish to visit Japan one day and have at it there in the local shops, the OG!
The beef was not to what I was used to, a unique kind of way they made it. Picture a soft textured jelly in a field of aromatic spices, divine. The sausage and spring onion addition was splendid. The shrooms made it more of a delicacy, the broth was filled with spices that tingled the area below my tonsil. The fish I didn’t like as it was a very familiar one to me, the one I had a lot of times so this was not attraction for me. But, the thing that made me a bit disheartened is the fact that they gave me a half of an egg, they showed 2 halved of an egg! I like egg so this was unacceptable, I didn’t complain though as my friends and I dug in by then.
My friend had ordered another rice dish that forgot the name of, I got the strawberry shake and my friend got the chocolate shake. This was a shake that I would pay for over the one at Farmhouse any day. Cheap, better suited to my taste, and it had an ice-cream in on it too.
This costed Tk418, a heck of a lot cheaper than the burger… with a lot more ingredients too. It was worth it. Although, I wanted the noodles they used in udon.
This was in the same day as the one in ramen, this was in Bashundhara City Shopping Complex. More accurately: 3 No Tejturi Bazar West, Panthapath, Dhaka 1215.
It was taken from a BFC joint. I used to love this back when I was a kid and wanted to see if it maintained it’s standard after all these years.
It was good, not like the one I had the last time but good. I then thought about taking 3 pieces of chicken instead of this one as the price for 3 chickens were lower than this one single burger…
That’s it for now guys, see you on another food hunt. Till then,
