Are smartphones getting lame?

I'm almost starting to miss my first smartphone. It's so unusual to miss old tech when new and better are out on a daily base now. Well, the excitement is gone the moment when you open that box. Slowly, silently fading away. Nothing new coming out.

I mean, no new level of innovation, no excitement. That moment when your eyes open wide and mouth drop and you can't but say:,, Holy shit this is it!'' And here is why: Every phone has the same mould. It's getting boring. At least for me, it is. I hope to see some modular phone action in the near future that would be what I am looking for. Project ARA, modular phone. Customisable to the max, a personal and unique phone for everyone. All this tech talk remained me of my first smartphone. It was eleven or twelve years ago when I switched from cellphone to smartphone. That was a huge step in my consumer's life and it was quite a thrill. I would describe it like when a person tries crack for the first time, it is an indescribable feeling. A feeling I honestly didn't know about, I watched a documentary on Discovery where a crack head was talking about it. The first time was so amazing and did it again but it wasn't so amazing anymore. I have the same problem as the crack head. When I purchased The HTC Touch HD, man what a feeling it was. It was top quality thru and thru. The box had a premium design, it was black and big. It came with a lot of stuff like an 8 GB SD card, two styles, screen protector, charging/data cable, protection sleeve or phone bag, and headphone.

For an iPhone killer, there was a lot of stuff included. Today you get only the device, charger and maybe some headphones. Yeah, in that time any better phone was an Apple killer. It was a magnificent first smartphone and it was black. It had a rubber back panel what was perfect because it would stick to your fingers. An excellent feature, in my opinion, I like sticky phones! It didn't take me long to take advantage of the 8 GB on phone and another 8 GB on the sd card. transporting PC games was easy as pie. Thank God @moon32walker was always up to date and always got us covered in that matter. It was a real head turner sometimes I felt like I am the only one owning one. It took a year or so and half the city had some kind of hi-tech smartphone. The OS was not so good, Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional. You could instal a cool app and run Android on it. The downside was, poor battery life but it was kind of refreshing testing out some alternative solutions. Where this smartphone really shined was hacking my PS3. Thanks to Geohot and some other code breakers it was a walk thru the park. When I saw that the HTC Touch HD was on the list for the PS3 hack, It was another wow moment. In the first day's fo hacking a PS3, you needed to switch to android get a custom app. Connect phone and an external drive to your beloved console and have fun. All those things are nice and you can do most of it on today's low spec phones. So it is basically always the same phones that are getting just a little better and slimmer year after year. Makes me wonder how many other opportunities we had by owning a modular phone. For example, instal a custom coin holder for the shopping bin. The aftermarket industry will have their hands full by making some insane upgrade parts. Do you want better sound? Just upgrade! Do you want a massive amount of storage? No problem! The point is, I want to build my own phone. For example, your going on a road trip and want to take some nice pictures? No problem just swap the camera sensors for a better one. You love music but don't like to wear headphones? Just instal some big speakers. You're getting what I am getting too. Put the stuff in it what you like and want. The only problem what I can think of is when it falls on the ground. Like the old phones, it would disassemble by itself.
