Today's 31 mana battle was very interesting and I got the opportunity to play this battle with two easy rulesets where I scored a great victory in 4 rounds. The game was finished very quickly because my monster selection and positioning worked perfectly on the battlefield.
In any medium mana battle it is important that you first understand the ruleset properly and then select your monsters accordingly. If you do this your chances of winning will become much higher.
When the mana limit is medium every single point matters a lot and one bad pick can lose you the whole match. That is why players need to be extra smart while selecting their team.
Before moving toward the battle breakdown and my strategy first lets understand the rulesets what is explained in these rulesets and what strategy and monster combination I made according to them.
RULESET 1: HEAVY METAL
This is a ruleset where you can only summon armored units. And what does this Heavy Metal ruleset do? It stops you from picking monsters that do not have base armor and forces both players to select armored cards only.
Because of this Heavy Metal ability armored attackers are mandatory because unarmored units cannot be used in this battle.
According to this ruleset it is necessary to adopt a strategy where you select strong armored monsters that fit the mana budget while keeping high attack power.
RULESET 2: COUNTERSPELL
This is a ruleset where all units have Magic Reflect ability. And what does this Counterspell ruleset do? It returns 50% of magic damage back to the magic attacker rounded up.
Because of this Counterspell ability using heavy magic attackers becomes dangerous because your own units will take back damage.
According to this ruleset it is necessary to adopt a strategy where you bring melee or ranged attackers to avoid self damage while keeping your team safe.
MY STRATEGY AND MONSTERS SELECTION
Keeping these two rulesets in mind what strategy did I adopt and which monsters did I select? I knew that under Heavy Metal I needed cards with base armor and under Counterspell I had to be cautious with magic attacks.
First of all I selected my Archon Incessant Sage with +1 Armor ability. This means that all my allied monsters will get +1 extra Armor at the start of the battle which increases their overall protection.
On the front line I selected Twice Yester Knight which is a strong melee card with solid armor and health to act as my front tank.
In the second position I selected Sherringham Logger, with good melee attack power to back up the front line.
In the third position I selected Hungry Ulund with good health and armor stats to add extra durability to my team.
In the fourth position I selected my backline magic support card to complete my 31 mana team lineup.
ON THE BATTLEFIELD
When I looked at the enemy lineup on the battlefield it was also quite interesting. They have also a good monster lineup.
The battle started with direct attacks coming from both sides. Both teams had good armor because of the ruleset and summoner buffs.
In Round 1 both sides made heavy physical strikes. My front tank took heavy hits while dealing good damage to the enemy front line. My backline support cards like kept applying steady pressure.
In Round 2 and Round 3 the battle started shifting in my favor. The enemy front tank could not survive my combined physical strikes and fell leaving their middle units exposed. Once their main defense broke my team pushed forward continuously.
In Round 4 my team took complete control of the battle. Opponent had only 1 monster remaining. My monsters focused all their power and finished the battle easily.
At the end of Round 4 I got a very good victory. The main reason for this outcome was that I selected strong armored monsters and made a good combination that destroyed the enemy team in just four rounds.
