Battle Mage Secrets Weekly Challenge with Back to Basic Ruleset
Back to Basic Ruleset
Description:
Units lose all abilities.
Summoner effects are still active.
Back row monsters are safe from enemy's Sneak, Snipe and Opportunity attacks. The ruleset places importance on Magic and Ranged attacks as melee attacks loose their ability to hit outside of the first position. Select monsters with high speed and choose a summoner that increases damage or defense against Magic or Ranged attacks. Lining up monsters in ascending order of their health is the way to go.
The Battle Ruleset
Back to Basic: Monsters lose all abilities.
Explosive Weaponry: All Monsters have the Blast ability.
This is a low mana ruleset game and almost every color is available to play, except the Dragon Splinters. This allows me to use any Splinter that I like, which will be the Water this time, because Alric has the option to increase all the magic damage on my favorite monsters.
The Back to Basics ruleset will remove all the abilities on every monster on the battlefield, but the Explosive Weaponry ruleset will twist a little bit on the gameplay, because all the monsters will damage the adjacent monsters of their target.
My Team Composition
Alric Stormbringer is my all time favorite summoner, because he cost only 3 mana and he gives +1 magic attack to all of his monsters, which is the strongest attack type in this game and it is very difficult to counter.
The Furious Chicken cost zero mana, so it is easy to use in any kind of team, but in return he doesn't really have any stats at all. He will block at least one attack, which is always good.
The Kelp Initiate cost only two mana as well, which is amazing, because it will fit perfectly into my team. Compare to his mana cost he has a lot of speed and health, which makes him an excellent off tank. His only disadvantage is that he doesn't have any attack.
The Djinn Oshannus is one of my favorite reward monster, which was easy to acquire in the past, so his cost to buy or rent is realtive cheap. This monster has a lot of speed to avoid the incoming melee and ranged attacks, which is combined with his high health.
The Venari Wavesmith is another great reward card, because he cost only 5 mana and he has two magic attack damage. Sadly he can't use his Protect ability, which would provide two armor to his team, but the two magic attack will be still usable.
The Enchanted Pixie cost three mana, which means that I can still use her in this battle and she has one magic attack, which will ignore the enemy armors completely. Even thought she has only one damage, but the Blast ability will deal an extra damage against the adjacent monsters of her target.
The Ice Pixie is a bit cheaper than the Enchanted Pixie, because her cost is only two mana. She also has the same one magic attack like her sister, but overtime she will be a bit weaker than her.
The Battle

My strategy worked as expected, because I used the plus one magic attack from my Alric to boost all the attack damage on my friendly magic attack monsters, which gave me an upper hand over my opponent.
My opponent tried to bring Kelya against my team, who gives plus one speed and armor to all of his monsters. His speedy monsters started attacking my monsters thanks to his speed advantage, but my Kelp and his high speed made his enemies to miss him twice and he also had enough health to sustain all the damage in the first round.
The second round started perfectly, because even thought my opponent killed my Kelp my Djinn Oshannus managed to kill their Oshannus and Angelic Mandarin with the same attack.
In the following rounds my opponent lost two more of his monsters and only one of them left on the battlefield, so my team won the game for me.
Do you like Back to Basic? Why or why not?
I kinda like this ruleset, because it is not bad and it doesn't require too much strategizing from either players except choosing the summoner and Splinter, which might be crucial.
